Not the greatest 'team' player, as in, fitting into systems, working with other players (I'm probably being a bit hard on him here) but as an individual, noone touches him, not even close to him. Your Messi's, Ronaldo's...Zidane's... but past them 3, I'm struggling to think of players who are better or on his level individually.
And that's how good he is/was.

Re: "What they say about Stevie G"
So Dean first says no one touches Gerrard
and then
Dean is saying Gerrard is the 4th best player to ever live?
Either way both are wrong.

Gerrard on Messi, Ronaldo's or Zidane's level? For real? I loved Gerrard in his prime but for real.

You know what, I am man enough to admit it. He's far better than them.

“He’s a midfielder and if you look at all the important goals he’s scored - well I can’t even think of a striker in the world who has scored as many important goals, never mind a midfielder. How many times has he done it in the dying seconds of a game? I am trying to think of a striker now who does it - there aren’t any. Think about it.
Is right. Who can argue with that? Come at me, bro.

Listen, you could narrow it down to any player like that. I imagine if you look at someone like Lampard's statistics, there will be a particular minute when he is more likely to score, or with any other player, the fact Gerrard's statistical likelihood is the 90th minute doesn't actually mean anything about him, it is just a coincidence. Unless you want to argue that he isn't trying as hard in the first 89 minutes.
If you want a striker who scored a lot of important goals, sometimes in the dying minutes of a game (I can't remember Gerrard scoring in the dying seconds), look no further than Carlos Tevez. Scored the goals which kept West Ham United in the Premier League against all odds, scored the equaliser at Lyon in the CL, scored a last minute goal against Blackburn in the PL which proved key to winning the title, did the same against Tottenham Hotspur, scored the winner at Anfield, scored the equaliser in the last minute of a Copa Libertadores Semi Final against his team's greatest rivals (equivalent of a United-Liverpool Semi with Gerrard scoring the winner), scored the equaliser in Old Trafford in a huge League Cup Semi Final, scored winning goals against Chelsea 2 or 3 times, the guy's done it all.

Re: "What they say about Stevie G"
What? You're telling me no other striker in the world has scored as many 'important' goals as Steven Gerrard?
I'm pretty sure every goal Leonal Messi has scored has been 'important' and contributed greatly to Barcelona's success.

Thierry Henry and Ruud Van Nistelrooy scored shitloads of important goals for their respective clubs.
Wiltord scored quite a few too.

They weren't as significant as Gerrard's ones though.
Anyway, Henry said it, not me.

Much as it pains me to remember that goal, Wiltord has scored a far more important goal than Steven Gerrard ever has or will.

I think Leonal Messi's 127 goals for Barcelona have been far more significant in helping Barcelona win 3 consecutive La Liga titles, the Champions League in 08/09 and 10/11, etc.

Listen, scoring goals all the time and winning League Titles isn't important, what's important is scoring a few goals in important games. That's why Gerrard is a brilliant player and Ibrahimovic is a shit one.

His goal in the FA Cup dying seconds comes to mind. And his goal vs Olympiakos. His goal in Istanbul which started the comeback.
Like I said, Thierry Henry said it, not me.

If Thierry Henry really did say that (which i doubt) then he is a moron.

Coming into this thread it's from one extreme to another, someone thinks Gerrard = Messi, and some think Gerrard = Heskey.

Strikers:
Ruud Van Nistelrooy
Thierry Henry
Ronaldo
Lionel Messi ( I suppose he's a striker now)
Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Wayne Rooney
Didier Drogba
David Villa
Midfielders:
Frank Lampard (I know right, shocking)
David Beckham (Without him WC 2002 would have been a fantasy)
Zinedine Zidane
Kaká
Andrés Iniesta
He's not even the most "game changing" English player

You've gone for overkill by including Iniesta. WC and the Champions league, two games.
That I know of.
