It's a player appreciation thread. Gerrard is the greatest talent of his generation was mentioned in the quote. It has a DJ and a Boxer in it
That's just asking for comments.

Re: "What they say about Stevie G"
how about the quotes from all the defenders hes cheated with his dives
or the quotes from referees that hes conned over the years
the quotes from players that have been assulted on the pitch by him
how about the quotes of the single mother who fathers his baby and probably the hundreds of other women he has 1 night standed with
and of course, the innocent people off the pitch that have been assaulted by him
gerrard = mediocre player, even worse person

Wasn't that funny.
I would have put this in the Liverpool thread where it would only attract a couple of the trolls, not all of them and all the little wannabees

Thierry Henry:
Zinedine Zidane
Wouldn't call them biased opinions.
“I find it a disgrace that he didn’t win European Footballer of the Year in 2005 after Istanbul. For me, he is one of the best ever.
“Whenever you play Liverpool you know you have to get him out of the game. If not, it’s all over for you.
“He’s a midfielder and if you look at all the important goals he’s scored - well I can’t even think of a striker in the world who has scored as many important goals, never mind a midfielder. How many times has he done it in the dying seconds of a game? I am trying to think of a striker now who does it - there aren’t any. Think about it.
“For me, and I have always said this, he will be regarded as one of the greatest midfielders ever when he finishes his career. No doubt.
Zinedine Zidane
"Is he the best in the world? He might not get the attention of [Lionel] Messi and Ronaldo but, yes, I think he just might be," Zidane said. "If you don't have a player like Steven Gerrard, who is the engine room, it can affect the whole team.
"When we were winning league titles and European Cups at Real, I always said Claude Makelele was our most important player. There is no way myself, [Luis] Figo or Raúl would have been able to do what we did without Claude and the same goes for Liverpool and Gerrard.
"He has great passing ability, can tackle and scores goals, but most importantly he gives the players around him confidence and belief. You can't learn that – players like him are just born with that presence."
Wouldn't call them biased opinions.

By the way, being a great footballer doesn't mean you are a great judge of talent. Who was it who won the PFA Players' Player award last season?

Thierry:
First of all, you're french. How on earth did you not call it "Ballon d'Or". I'm not even french and "european footballer of the year" isn't even in my vocabulary. But the question i really want to ask is... He was better than Ronaldinho in 2005?
Zizou:
You're right about the whole engine room thing, but Messi is up there with Pelé and Maradona you crazy frenchman....

Re: "What they say about Stevie G"
One more thing, Gerrard is not comparable to Makelele, certainly not at the time Zinedine Zidane was talking about him - I doubt he even watched many Liverpool games. Alonso or Maschernao would be far more comparable to Makelele. One thing I always found interesting in that season was that there was a period in that season when Gerrard got injured, and everyone was worried about the impact that would have on them. They subsequently scored 4 goals against Blackburn (where Benitez made that disgraceful gesture to insult Sam Allardyce), went to Stamford Bridge and rammed 4 past them, then scored 4 past Arsenal at Anfield.
