Correct, 6 national team captains in one squad, 6. And a lack of leadership is the problem? Don't buy it. It's almost accepted wisdom these days though.

Some of them don't look like natural leaders on the pitch, they were probably just given the national armband because they're the most well known/play in a top league etc.

Theo Walcott hopes to get his chance as a centre forward soon after discussing a potential change of position with Arsène Wenger.

The England international broke into the Arsenal side on the right of a three-pronged attack and has given countless left backs problems in the Premier League and beyond.

But much of Walcott's finest work has come when he drifts into a central position and uses his pace to run in behind the opposition - the winner in Dortmund being a case in point. The 22-year-old has three goals in six starts this season and believes he can do more damage from those areas.

"I had a meeting with the boss and explained my point of view," Walcott told the Official Matchday Programme.

"He knew the conversation would come up and was very happy to talk about it. He says he’ll give me a chance there at the right time, and I’m dying for it to happen – but he knows exactly what he is doing and obviously I trust him.

"I believe I can give so much more to the team playing up front, with the runs I can make off the ball, and I just love hitting the back of the net as well.

"At times I feel a bit, if not wasted, then in and out of games on the right. I just want it more and more, having scored a few last season - I’m not a winger and I think plenty of people know that. I’ve done OK out there but I’d love to play down the middle."
Tell him to fuck off onto the bench, he isn't needed up front he'll be clueless.

Vermaelen's is natural leader for Belgium, Ramsey's good for Wales and plays much better with them than with us, Haven't sen Benayoun for Israel nor have I seen Park. Rosicky leadership skills for the Czech has gone downhill possibly because of his injuries.

with the exception of maybe Vermaelen, they don't seem the type who can motivate and get more out of others...

Arshavin? Laughing the guy is straight up lazy the majority of the time.

In saying that it is difficult to captain a side from an attacking midfield position, hence captains are usually CB's & CM's.

RVP should be playing behind somebody anyway.

I think he's the best man for the job in our squad, he does have a word with players when they're doing stupid shit if you take notice.

Well Ramsey's type of captaincy is to get the attacking players and midfielders working, of course he's not the type to shout and demand from set pieces, but then again he's only 20 or so. Arshavin is Arshavin, him being on the pitch is enough motivation for the rest of the players Official Arsenal FC Thread - Page 16 859644

Yes, but just not Walcott. Let me tell you something, I absolutetly slaughtered Chamakh and wanted him out of our team the most out of all the other players, but I tell you what when he came on against Blackburn he had that sort of aggression I've never seen from him in an Arsenal shirt. It was more of the old from Bordeaux. If he can put that sort of performance week in week out, I'd prefer him up front than Walcott and RvP behind him. There are many players I'd see up front than Theo 'my footballing brain hasn't developed since I was 14' Walcott. Chamakh, Gervinho, Park, Arshavin are just a few I'd see up top before him. People who doubt Walcott's abilities as a striker are stupid.

I think Vermaelen and van Persie are the only ones who can be considered proper leaders and it's not because they show "grit and determination" and shout their arse off. That much is bollocks. Leadership for me is being able to radiate confidence through your performance, grabbing the bull by the horns and playing out of your skin despite everyone around you being down. Cesc did this regularly and that's why I thought he was a decent captain.

People are fully entitled to doubt him and with good reason. He may have the required abilities to naturally play there but that doesn't mean it'll instantly work. He'll have to prove himself.

If Walcott was utilized in front of Van Persie not only would he give us the option to play it in behind but he would take defenders out of the game which would give Robin more space to work his magic. Just like Hernandez does with Rooney at United.

Also Chamberlain would be able to play on the right which could be fantastic.

Have you even watched him recently?
At the end of last and at the beginning of this season he's really been tracking back a lot, his defending isn't the best but he wasn't lazy by any means, he conceded the FK Blackburn scored from and also another one last season, think the opposition scored from it too Neutral

I think it was against Swansea this season where he got the ball stolen off him on his first touch and was just stood there letting them counter attack Neutral That really annoyed me tbh.

On the whole Walcott upfront thing,I would like to see it at some point although I fear that when teams sit deep against us the whole point of playing him up their could be somewhat nullified. His finishing is alright overall, one on one he's reasonably reliable.

If teams sit deep RVP will be ripping them apart from the hole while Theo drags defenders all over the place.

Arsenal were doing a banner competition on Facebook and the winners banner would be hung from the upper tier against Bolton. Today one banner just shot up from 11th to first in an instant. The person who created the banner worked for a creative agency; this creative agency has Arsenal listed as a client. eek3

If you are going for confidence in captaincy, you would be going with Szczesny, if it was determination and leadership, it would be Vermaelen, any of the two would be good as they can both see the game and judge things.

Never really been a fan of offensive players as captains for some reason, always preffered center halves/defensive midfielders. I wanted Vermaelen to be given the captaincy when Cesc left but we'll see how v.Persie does.
