Agree with this.
Johnson needs to be playing further up the field where he would be best suited.
Rubbish Dave. This has been said for years and no manager has done it.

Dan wrote:Capello might not flip Johnson off for Kelly. Probably won't. He's spoken about giving Kelly a chance, but that's about it. If both are fit, Johnson will start over Kelly. Being powerful and dominant in the air doesn't make you a better defender anyway. Kelly's made his fair share of mistakes in that aspect as well.
Kelly will become better than Johnson, but for now Johnson is the better player.

Johnson has made shit loads of mistakes since arriving.

And Kelly has never made a mistake in his career?

While we're on the topic of fullbacks being coverted to wingers, I think Bale would be better as an attacking left back.

That's because nobody has had the bottle to try it. He's proven he has the the attacking ability, so I don't see why he wouldn't succeed playing in a more attacking position. I don't see what he offers at right back other than costing us a shit load of goals through the season.

I didn't say that, you pointed out Kelly has made his fair share and so has Johnson more in fact and he is supposed to be the experienced one. Any ball over Johnson's head and he's fucked so slow on the turn. He's been excellent since Dalglish came in and hasn't had any problems shite under Hodgson like the rest.
Jord wrote:We've been through this though haven't we? You'd rather much have a fullback who can go forward than defend.

He doesn't cost us a 'shitload of goals' at right-back.
And if he really was that bad at defending, I'm pretty sure the likes of Mourinho, Benitez, Capello etc. would have noticed and tried to see if he would work further up field. He hasn't been tried there/hasn't remained there, which suggests he might be a damn sight better at RB than further up.
Benitez for a start is one of the best coaches in the world defensively, and he never had a problem playing Johnson there. Which says a lot for the ability of someone who can't defend.

The problem could fall with Johnson. If he doesn't feel comfortable playing further up the pitch then the manager isn't going to force him.
And yes Johnson does cost us alot of goals at right back. His timing defensively is piss poor for someone who has been playing in that position for such a long time. Even the last game he played he fucked up in that position and cost us. Just can't see why managers stick with him there when he is so out of there depth defensively.

Too much Dani Alves, Barcelona, go to Nou Camp, speak Catalan etc etc

Because he obviously isn't. Dalglish, Benitez, Capello, Mourinho (he was even reportedly interested in taking him to Real Madrid) all seem to think he is perfectly capable of playing well at RB. If he was truly as out of his depth defensively as you suggest, he wouldn't be here.

I've seen it with my own eyes Dan When the defence haven't got his back he's all over the place. Look at that Arsenal game a few seasons back with that own goal or the Sunderland beach ball incident where he just stood there, cost us both games. When has Kelly made a mistake as big as those?
