Liverpool may have won this fixture last season but it will bring back few fond memories for fans of the Reds. Roy Hodgson was in charge, and the public voted with their feet; a crowd of 35,400 was the lowest for a Premier League match at Anfield for almost seven years and Hodgson lasted just one more game, a defeat at Blackburn, before being sacked.
The end was also coming for Fernando Torres - his equaliser against Bolton was the last goal he scored at Anfield for Liverpool. Joe Cole scored Liverpool's winner - anyone remember him?
How times have changed - if Liverpool win this weekend they will have taken seven points from their first three games; last season they needed nine games to get seven points on the board, by which time they were in the relegation zone.
Bolton have started nicely, the optimism of the opening-day destruction of QPR far from extinguished by a battling defeat to Manchester City - though Owen Coyle will not want a repeat of the individual mistakes that helped City on their way last Sunday.
There are lots of statistics and numbers to crunch in all that - here's one more amazing stat. Of all the Premier League players with 10 goals or more, Bolton's Ivan Klasnic can claim to be the second most prolific. He averages a goal every 177.7 minutes - only Manchester United's Javier Hernandez can better that!
