I'm not having an argument here. I don't expect anyone to change their views, I'm just trying to explain my thoughts and take on board what other people are saying.

If everyone agrees that this thread has run it's course I'm happy to close it.

Isn't that what everyone does when they argue? Anyway, homosexuals are minority in need of protection as much as dark skinned people (but apparently not the Japanese), I believe that an amendment should be made to this forum's rules to protect them from hate speech in the same way dark skinned people are protected - there are provisions against racism but none against homophobia.

Thus, any threads about gay marriage will become as futile as a thread about the merits of separate restrooms for blacks. The difference is a consensus exists on the latter, but not on the former. It's a controversial topic and its very much a part of current events. But by making "homophobia" (which btw, is subjective in definition. Just because you don't think gays should marry doesn't mean you are afraid of them. But many people will claim as much. So good luck enforcing it.) a violation of forum rules, it will become literally impossible to discuss topics like this in a meaningful way. The people who disagree with gay marriage will be effectively handcuffed from joining in. Having everybody agree on a topic is not a meaningful discussion.

Racists argue that there is logic behind racism. That's just how it works.

I believe you have the right to defend your position against homosexuals, I have no issue to that, but I believe you did cross a line with some parts of your posts, I believe you put quotations over the word people which would imply that you think homosexuals are less human, maybe that was someone else's post but I'm on a mobile so it's hard to check back.

I put quotations for emphasis. As in the "gay people" as a group. Don't talk shit.

My view is equally as valid as yours.

I don't support homosexuality, I support Liberalism, the idea that if someone is doing no harm then the rest of society has no right to infringe upon their rights. The population argument is based on nonsense, underpopulation is not a problem we are going to be facing in the next few centuries barring some apocalyptic scenario.

There is a difference between saying gay people should not be allowed to marry and saying that gays should be shunned by society.

Whose talking shit? How am I supposed to know you meant gay people when you specifically put quotes around people and nothing else. Neutral

It's very difficult to support a position on gays not being allowed to marry without putting forth ideas that are inevitably going to be labeled homophobic by some people. And at that point, you are heading down a slope that is hard to get off (no pun intended Same-sex marriage - Page 6 279869 ).

Because I said "as a 'people' ". I didn't think it would look right if didn't emphasize that.

Okay, this has gone way off topic, think we should just draw a line under it now.

Apologies to Rolo for ruining his thread.
