Re: 2011/12 Europa League thread
I wonder if a team as "small" as Shamrock Rovers have ever gotten this far in the Europa League/ UEFA Cup? I suspect the answer is no but I may need to do some research about this.

Re: 2011/12 Europa League thread
Danish teams performed pretty awful, OB should have put 1 in at the very least but they continue their very poor form even though they have the best or 2nd best squad in the league at the moment. Copenhagen who has been on great form in the league and have a big lead already played even worse and were outclassed everywhere on the field by Liege.
Else PSV looks like a team that could go far this year, depending on who drops in from Champions League of course

lmao! JIHAD LEGIA!!
Legia brought 25,000 fans to an away game in Israel!!!!!! That's insane, don't think even the top clubs can top that!

oh gawd.... Fulham is going to absolutely destroy us.
We are in such bad form we can barely beat relegation contenders in the Polish league.
Atleast I expect Legia Warszawa to crush whoever they are playing.

We are going to get smashed as well but it's not like we were ever going to win the competition

Re: 2011/12 Europa League thread
Well my team has just completely collapsed. We were so strong last season and we were 3 minutes away from qualifying into the Champions League group stages, since then however, we have been utter dog crap both in the League and Europe. We're the whipping boys of our group, and our group sucks.
So sad too, because I really thought that we could easily win this group, and if the Wisla of last season were playing instead of the Wisla of today, they probably would win this group with ease.
Hopefully we don't sack Maaskant though. I am looking forward to January, I feel we could really raise our level in the Spring Time, but it would be too late for Europe. Oh well, the Polish League is much more important than Europa League.

Ah oh I see Martin Hansson is the ref for this game, I think everyone remembers he was the man in charge for the 2nd leg of France v ROI. Also it is interesting to know in 2007 he was in charge for a USA v Poland friendly. I do not know how that turned out or if he had any actual problems with that game.
Just to be 100% clear I was talking about the Wisła Kraków v Fulham game.

Rubin Kazan at the Lane on Thursday, not sure whether to be concerned or not since we're bound to rest players. Martins always does well against us, so I expect him to score in of the two games.

All refs hate Poland and Polish teams, so it's nothing new.Weather130 wrote:polska. wrote:oh gawd.... Fulham is going to absolutely destroy us.

I forgot he was on that team! Yeah it may be a long day for us though we'd best win so we don't have to rely on us getting points in russia.

Re: 2011/12 Europa League thread
So Polska I have to ask which is more important for Wisła right now, the Europa League game tomorrow or 3rd round Polish Cup match at Limanovia Limanowa next week??

Re: 2011/12 Europa League thread
The cup, because it's a free ticket to the EL, whilst I am not so certain Wisla will get the qualification spot in the league. Legia, Lech and Slask Wroclaw are all IMO 100% coming into first, second and third in any order, leaving but fourth spot for Wisla to contend with everyone else in the league for the remaining EL spot. Last season Lech Poznan missed out on Europe after all.
Winning the Puchar Polska eliminates this worry.
Plus Europa League is already over for us. We are in such shit form and already bottom of the group with 0 points.

Well I also would assume this Polish Cup game should be rather easy, I mean the other team does not even have a page on Wikipedia (well at least the English version)

Re: 2011/12 Europa League thread
Well upsets happen each year, especially in the Puchar Polska when anything could happen really (article here: http://polishscout.blogspot.com/2011/09/when-romance-of-polish-cup-becomes.html) and lower teams do regularly knock out higher tier teams, usually with the help of corruption with the referees (major scandal about this going on since a week ago, article here: http://polishscout.blogspot.com/2011/10/mistakes-spark-allegations-again.html ). And after all, we are completely out of form and lacking in confidence....
Then again, I think Maaskant will play our second XI's defense.. whom are probably better than our first teams defense.
As for the opposition, I've heard of Limanovia before, so they can't be all that bad. Actually if memory serves, they went astoundingly far in one of the cups in recent years.

Re: 2011/12 Europa League thread
Twente clearly better than OB, sure win for them, first half they had no chance and its not looking better now.. AZ on the other hand losing to Wien, that seems bad they held us(Ajax) at 2-2 this weekend. Don't think that FCK has much chance against Hannover either, they lost this weekend to AC Horsens in the league and are no where near the same team with the new coach and the replacements for last years key players (Wendt, Pospech, Antonsson, Kvist & coach Ståle Solbakken)

No Australian, Australian need to play, I'm gonna go cry over no Australian.
But seriously that's actually pretty good.
