Worst mistake you've made in a match?

Me and the goal post had a bit of a love affair when I was in my high school days

In 5 aside when i had no one around me (defenders) and i shot and it went to the corner boards

90th Minute a corner comes in and I go to clear it, and naturally as a striker I put it in the the net but unfortuatly it was my own goal, and this was a cup game so it took the score to 3-3 and went to extra time. But made up for it in the last moments of extra time with a 30 yard Free Kick. Sent everyone into raptures. One of the most thrilling games Ive played in.

To be honest I can't be that bad as I now play for Southend United U15's.

Played a match against some friends 2 months ago. Went to do an Alonso from inside my own half and scuffed the ball out for a throw in. Was pretty embarrassing.

And at under 14's level I punched the ball off the line when we were 11-0 down. They scored from the rebound though.

I've also had the pleasure of saving the ball off the line with my bollox in a match. Was a big mistake for all the distress it caused me, but it was nice to take one for the team.

Not much but I "Robert Green'd" once and get called that whenever I do something stupid.

In goal at training I've dropped easy catches into the net loads of times, i'm like the Gomes of our team. Which is a good thing as my team never want me to go in goal at training when we play switch keepers so I get to stay out


Worst mistake playing outfield is one of these two.

* First was in a school game. I played Right Back for school, and our keeper was a bit of a spaz and wore Edgar David goggles cos of an incident involving one of my shots to his face the previous summer holidays down the park. Anyway, it was 1 on 2, and the centre back was jockeying the attacker, but the attacker got past him and quickly shot. I was close enough distance to attempt the block, so I flung myself at it feet first and took the full weight out the ball and sent it towards the right post (was heading left post). This was like 18 yards. The keeper though had already dived to the left post and lay on the floor watching the ball roll in and it went down as my own goal.

* Second time was a friendly game. The team my team were playing were short in numbers so borrowed some of us lot. I went on theirs for a laugh as it would have been like a training game then just playing my mates. So I got put on the wing, then I found myself in the 6 yard box, 2 yards out, ball drilled in, simple tap in, and I blazed it over the bar. Beautiful.



Also at school last year, bruised all my back for about 1 month after attempting an overhead kick. I missed the ball too.

Dummied a guy on the edge of our box after a corner and then tried to Cruyff turn him when he reset his feet, I stood on the ball and fell over and he took it and scored

Also done a few bad backpasses here and there too

missed a couple of open goals but for some reason the ball seems to find my face quite a lot

Missed an open goal too.

Had some positioning problems as well, but made up for it by being fast.

I missed three one-on-one goals in a single match. That was an awful season for me at that time.

I've got one that isn't me, but we changed ends at half time and some boy ran all the way to our goal and smashed it in without realising you change ends.

I was always pretty good at penalties but once we got one and I was saying I didn't feel confident and wanted someone else to take it but no one would then I took it and the keeper saved it, shit penalty it was as well, felt like walking off the pitch.

Schools cup final, came on as a sub, at Deepdale, and I blocked a shot on the line.....unfortunately it was on the opposition line

Missing a one on one in the last minute to steal the points against Man Utd, tried to go round the keeper when I should of buried it in the bottom corner. Head in hands moment. Well it's probably not my worst, but its one of a few bad mistakes I made on the pitch.

And trying to get the ball of Jack Wilshere. I just pushed him over in the end.

Once I was up against John Barnes and I took him out and got sent off.

6-a-side on astro, 5 seconds after kick off the ball is tapped back to me when i was expecting them to run forward with the ball. I wasn't particulary paying attention and it put the striker through 1v1 and scored

Playing in defense in futsal. I tried to pass the ball by chipping it over the attacker with my weaker left foot. I ended up kicking it straight to his feet, and he blasted it into the net.

Missed a sitter in a game that I was being watched in

Tried to skill a guy up.....failed to get past him for like 10 seconds and then I tripped on the ball.....tore muscle in my foot and that was 4 weeks of my Summer gone......I couldn't even walk

Was even worse because the hospital never gave me crutches despite the fact that I had to hobble on one foot......so I was hobbling round the house and I fell on my hurt leg......so that made it worse and that was another 2 weeks out

Went to win the game last 5 minutes in Sunday League, shit pitch made it bobble and I shot putting it out for a throw in. I was straight infront of the goal 16 yards out, the ball was coming in on the left.
