After Sri Lanka have been knocked out I'm going to support Mauritius as my uncle is Mauritian.

That's not the final round. The winners of each group of the 10 groups, will qualify to the final round. The final round will be a 2 legged playoff to determine the 5 teams that go to the World Cup.
Currently, our national team is not good. But considering how well our U20 and Olympic teams are performing, we should start injecting new blood into our senior team. I can see Egypt easily qualifying to the final round. But it will all depend on who we face in the final playoff to see if we go to the World Cup.

No matter how much you hate the FIFA World Rankings it really says no. It is not perfect but it can give you a ballpark estimate how good or bad a team is. Liberia is ranked 63rd and Mauritius is ranked 195th.
Also Mauritius likes to play a lot of friendlies versus club teams but have little success in these games. A few recent positive results were a 1-0 victory over Petite Rivière Noire SC (a team in the Mauritius league) and also a 1-0 victory over the Fulham Academy played in Mauritius. They also lost 0-2 to Mayotte which is a French territory that is not a FIFA member.

Not quite sure why I forgot about all of this but some games in Asia are going on right now and no huge upsets yet. At one point Singapore was beating China but things have turned around and China should win it. Also in CONCACAF for some unknown reason the Bahamas decided to withdraw from qualifying so that is another team eliminated.

Australia came from behind against Thailand to win 2-1.

Syria were disqualified after fielding an ineligible player in the 2nd qualifying round thus Tajikistan were then reinstated to the tournament.

With so many games being played today I feel this thread needs to be updated. Today the Dominican Republic, Cayman Islands, Barbados, Saint Lucia, Curaçao, and the US Virgin Islands have been eliminated from World Cup qualification.

Re: 2014 World Cup Qualifying thread
The team I listed for the lead goal scorer may confuse you but is not a typo. The Los Angeles Blues are a team in the USL Pro League which is in the American 3rd tier.
It is slighty funny that the top goal scorer would actually be in a lower American league but that actually is the case right now.

One more minor update here for the status of some various CONCACAF nations; Bermuda, Nicaragua, Dominica, Puerto Rico, and Belize have been eliminated. Panama has advanced to the 3rd round.

I am surprised no one has brought this thread back to life for today. The big news of the day so far is North Korea is officially out of qualification. They are the first team involved in the most recent edition to go out.

Mauritius have announced their withdrawal from the preliminary competition for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™.
Consequently, the team’s scheduled qualifying matches against Liberia on 11 and 15 November 2011 have been cancelled, with the Liberians automatically advancing to the next round, which is due to begin in June 2012.
Liberia will now compete in Group J, facing up to Senegal, Uganda and Angola, as determined at the Preliminary Draw in Rio de Janeiro on 30 July 2011.

Re: 2014 World Cup Qualifying thread
Poor CONCACAF has had their qualifying format blowup onto their face. They have one round of fixtures left with nothing to be decided. I do not see a reason for the remaining fixtures to be played and I would be rather sad if someone got hurt here. The teams advancing to the third round are;
El Salvador
Guyana
Panama
Canada
Guatemala
Antigua and Barbuda

Their final game is at the United Arab Emirates, who do not have a single point in this qualifying round so that seems like a 100% yes answer to me.ahlycotc wrote:Lebanon with a shock victory. Will they make it to the next round now?
The winner of South Korea v Kuwait will be the other team to make the next round from this group. If this game ends as a draw South Korea will advance
