Those 3 defenders are part of the reason why Terry is performing poorly now. Carvalho was a world class CB and better than the 3 that you mentioned and largely helped out Terry. A few years ago Cech was also the best goalkeeper in the world, therefore could sometimes cover up a defensive mistake.

Cech has struggled a bit since his injury though and is no longer the goalkeeper that he once was.

Cech is a very good goalkeeper and has improved this season but to say he has been back to his very best is an extreme exaggerration. Back then he was the best keeper in the world. Now he is not.
