Why do Spurs fans think they have a divine right in brushing of a European spot lol? Come back when you have 5 European cups, 3 Uefa cups and 3 super cups.

That doesn't give us a divine right either.

I didn't say we DID have a divine right. The question was whether we'd rather go in it or not. After the last time we were there and Harry didn't take it seriously, it's best we don't. I'm just saying my opinion and didn't say we had a right to brush it off.

Fair enough, i cant see spurs getting any Euro spots next season if I'm honest so If I was a Spurs fan I'd gladly take 5th.

It's funny cos your team failed to even qualify for the group stage (I think)
That doesn't have anything to do with my point. Laughing That was because we had a new squad and hadn't found a best starting line-up. That's besides the point also.
samiz wrote:Yes. Play the reserve team and if we win play our first team in the Super Cup (against winner of CL). 2 trophy chances so why not?
Like there, he's saying it like winning it with your reserves is something simple, which it's not. Neutral
We'd play our reserves against the easier sides in the group stage but as we progress to the semis, final then we would play our first team. We wouldn't win the Europa with our reserve side, worded it wrong

I don't get this 'fuck the Europa' attitude and this 'concentrate on the league' as well.

Surely, considering the majority of players we have in the squad have played in Europe for the majority of their careers, they'll be fine with the Europa league as well for another season? It's not like it's something new. Plus, wins in the Europa can build momentum and confidence that can be taken into the league.

It's not much money, but it's more than a season without Europe and with the financial fair play rules coming in, the more we can make, the better. And it also gives us more games to bring the youngsters through, the more they play, the more they will develop.

I honestly can't see a downside to playing in the Europa.

I actually think it's a bit arrogant of you to say you don't want to qualify - you are effective trying to argue that you know better than the club's management, including Dalglish, about what the club should be doing. If the management think it is a bad idea to compete in the Europa League because of the reasons outlined here, they will play a youth side and get knocked out, or even defer entry to the competition.

Nope i would never think Liverpool are to big to pull out of any competion, and i would hate to pull out of competion's like some team's have in the past.

I wasn't even having a go there, and United pulled out of the FA Cup in 2000 because the FA wanted us to to help the World Cup bid - the club was doing its patriotic duty at the expense of the chance to defend the FA Cup.

I no you were not having a go, but i just had to throw that in there just for a wind up you would have done the same if it was the other way about. Wink Typical is it not the FA getting things wrong again. Rolling Eyes

I think that England is the only country in Europe that would have this conversation. I don't think any one else questions the importance of the tournament.

What's the upside of winning the trophy? It's Europeans second rate tournament. The games are played on a Thursday as well, which is not ideal preparation for games in the League on the weekends. Would rather see us concentrate on getting back into the Champions League next season.

Maybe so. It might happen in Spain with Real and Barca as well. But when Bayern spent all season in it back in '07/'08, they took it rather seriously. Played their team as usual for the most part.

And I thought Milan did as well a couple of years ago too, but just went out in the Second Round to Werder because they completely underestimated them. Can't remember if they were in serious trouble of missing the CL for the next season though.

It was nice to see Fulham take it seriously last year though, after seeing Aston Villa try their hardest to get out of the competition the couple of years before that.

in italy from a professional stand point, i can understand why certain clubs that have already been documented to why they neglect the europa league as it costs them money just to compete. so they struggle to see the purpose in playing something that is costing them money but im sure the italian fans themselves love to play in it.

but you are right in saying that only in england would something be universally discussed like this

Thursday > Sunday and Monday is the same distance between a Wednesday > Saturday. Same amount of preparation time.

As for what's the upside of winning it, it's a trophy. Something we've not seen come to Anfield in 5 years. It's about time we won a trophy and this could be a great chance. I was gutted when we went out in the semi's last season, and I've no doubt you were too. It might not be as prestigious as the Champions League, it's like the League Cup of Europe, but I'd rather have the chance to win four trophies than three.

Nottingham Forest have 2 European cups and a UEFA Super cup. So they have a more divine right to getting into Europe than the majority of EPL clubs.

History means fuck all. No wonder Liverpool fans all get slatted for being stuck in the past.
