I guess you've got me there. So far in life, I haven't been materialistic, though. I think my PS4 is the most expensive thing I've bought in the last 3 or 4 years.
In the future, though, I definitely do want a comfortable life. If that makes me materialistic. So be it.

Being materialistic is as much to do with your hopes and aspirations as it is to do with what you have. Probably even more the former for a young adult,in fact.Scott_LFC wrote:Glen Miller wrote:

Well I guess I'm materialistic, then.

Yet you constantly shove the amount of money you have into peoples faces, I'd consider that to be pretty materialistic.Scott_LFC wrote:Theo Filippo wrote:
I don't believe you, you're too materialistic to turn down money. I think that you just simply weren't qualified for the vast majority of those jobs that have been listed under those degrees (Which was a bullshit list anyway for all three) and employers have recognised that. But if you did choose to do fuck all for a year rather than continue in a 'lucrative' job from a top company or whatever you said then that's stupid.
How the fuck am I materialistic? I don't own a flash car. I don't buy fancy clothes. In fact, I'm pretty frugal with my money and hardly ever splash cash on materialistic things.
I don't care if you don't believe me.
Did you really say "choose to do fuck all for a year" as a response to me telling you that I'm "working on stuff relating to the Business I'll be managing in September, including marketing plans, logo designs, office/building furniture selection/collection, office layouts, research, financial predictions (although that's more my Stepbrother's forte), staffing, etc."?
Ok.
It wasn't in response to that, no. But that's something you can do on your laptop while you're having a shit. Furniture selection and office layout? Jesus Christ.
Sounds like you'd be better off there then than your pencil business.Scott_LFC wrote:It appears that a lot of you don't know how lucrative jobs in advertising are

I haven't been following this conversation too closely but it seems that you receive a significant degree of financial support from your parents. You probably had the opportunity to study something genuinely valuable without having to risk significant financial discomfort. It says something that you chose something as worthless as advertising in spite of that.

Only when people accuse me of being too poor to pay up for a bet. It's not shoving anything down anyone's throat. It's merely proving a point.
You're right, continuing my job in Advertising could possibly have been more lucrative than the venture I'm undertaking but I fancy a challenge and believe it can be a success.

How does it? I've been explaining in several posts how that's not true. Or are you just going by the assumptions of people who clearly have an agenda against me and don't know anything about my financial life?

He performed a pointless bit of skill in a very dangerous area with 3 Arsenal players pressing your back line. I'd be pretty angry if one of our centrebacks did something like that when we were 3-1 down.

Fair enough. All I can say to that is that I pay £200 a month to live at home and that most people can choose to live at home if they so desire. I literally don't know a single person in my life who's been forced to move out of their parent's home.

Tell me what else he could have done? If he didn't do that skill, he most likely would have been dispossessed by the onrushing Arsenal player.

It's worth noting that I live with my Mum, not my Dad. My Mum and Stepdad are very much working class.

That may be true, but at the end of the day if you live with your parents, even if you are paying a fee, there is only one party who is going to get shortchanged in the long run.Scott_LFC wrote:Glen Miller wrote:

£200 a month is a lot more than what most people pay their parents in board, tbh. I know out of all my friends, I pay the most, by a considerable amount. Another thing that is also worth noting is that I buy my own food and drink. All I really get out of staying here is getting my clothes washed and having access to the kitchen/internet/water/electricity and the bill for all that doesn't even come up to £200 a month anyway, I've seen it. Other than that, it's literally just a bedroom. Sure, they could rent it out for maybe £100 more, but they wouldn't have a stranger living in the house.

Everyone gets a student loan, the repayment terms are so favourable that only the financially illiterate would pay upfront. It's not your fault you don't have to worry about landlords and other people do, as I said, it's a good thing for you, but that and other problems are issues that most people do have to worry about which you don't. You have a colossal safety net - more like a safety trampoline - that is built on the free tenancy handed to you by your parents and that gives you a lot of opportunity (do you think a normal person could decide he's not going to work for a year?) which itself is added to by your dad handing you the keys to your own business. It's an area where you've been very lucky, you did seem to recognise that a couple of weeks ago, but now you are using your trampoline as a stick to beat people with, it's vile, provocation or no.
It is truly astonishing for you to say that renting a property or room is retarded, it shows how detached you are from the world that most people live in. How many people do you seriously think do it out of choice?
That image.
I'm not using it as a stick to beat people with, actually. People are using it as a stick to beat me with.
I still think renting is retarded, but I'll be honest. The plan was always going to be to rent my own place as soon as I got a job, but my girlfriend at the time was an Estate Agent and she convinced me not to with several compelling reasons. (She had her own fucking house at 21 years old and knew what she was talking about).
The world most people live in? Pretty sure the majority of people on this forum could have chosen to stay at home, if they so wished. Most of my friends either still live at home or own a property (albeit some of them shared ownership). And no, I don't only have rich friends.
What's wrong with the image? It shows that I pay out £50 to my Mother on a weekly basis.
No they aren't, someone (Vela?) had a pop at your degree mill University and then you came out swinging at everyone who quote you.
I reckon the majority of people on this forum do still live at home where they can, and most of your friends live at home or own a property, and that's the point. That's what almost everyone does when they have a choice. With one exception everyone I know who has moved out has done it because they had to for their career, moved into an owned property, or done it because they have started a family. People don't decide to put hundreds of pounds into a landlord's pocket every week because they think it would be fun.
It shows fuck all, let's be serious. When you said you'd show me a bank statement I was expecting a photograph of a bank statement, not a webpage that you've massacred in Paint.
Scott_LFC wrote:It appears that a lot of you don't know how lucrative jobs in advertising are
If they're so lucrative they'll be in high demand, if they're in high demand a 2:2 from one of the worst universities in the country isn't getting you one of them.

I think the point Ra's made was that you could have studied something harder and more useful and even if you'd flopped it wouldn't have impacted you unlike someone that didn't have their parents to help them out.
