That was part of my unique humour.  I'd have thought instantly switching from "Shit just got real" to "European Mickey Mouse Cup, very boring and pointless" as soon as we went out would have given away that I wasn't being entirely serious.  I was gutted we went out of it, I've said I think we should take it seriously even going back to 2011 when there was no CL spot and we first dropped into it. It appears I overestimated my audience's intelligence, for that I apologise.

Despite that, there's only one trophy you can call "European Cup" without being a total knob, it's the one with the big handles.

Main pull of the FA Cup is that it's the eilte cup competition in England, encompassing the best clubs the country has to offer. Hell, it's universally acknowledged as the best domestic cup in the world. Unlike the EL which is full of either the champions from places like Moldova, midtable clubs or CL afterbirth.

It was only a few months ago you were creaming for the scrub cup of England, the League Cup, so it's not really suprising that you're now doing the same over the EL. "Club expectations" I guess.

Hull and Aston Villa competed in a competition in which the best clubs in England participated and they managed to overcome them, and rightfully so as shown by how Villa dismantled you. In the EL you're competing against "the rest", they are in that competition in the 1st place by virtue of the fact they aren't good enough to face the best.

EL is by definition a failures trophy, the FA Cup winners can make a case to be classed as the best team in England.

So is the FA Cup, so is the cup I made out of clay when I was 6. In a football context European Cup refers to one trophy and one competition and it ain't the Europa League.
