The Office UK was amazing for the budget it had, for example.
What do you mean by 'for the budget it had'? I never rated it, but the show was near universally acclaimed over and above shows with far higher budgets. There are plenty of shows with low budgets that are outstanding, Peep Show, Father Ted and early Red Dwarf to name a few.

3 episodes are absolutely exceptional, one of them is probably the best hour of television I've ever watched. the other 3 are interesting but not compelling. I won't tell you which I preferred because I think altered expectations might change your view of it but I'd recommend it extremely highly.

I fucking hate Charlie Brooker. He put me off watching it when they 1st came on Channel 4, but I eventually watched it out of curiosity and it was pretty decent for the most part. Sort of like The Twilight Zone.

I don't know what to make of him. I agree with his sentiments sometimes, but he often rants for the sake of ranting and he's often profane to the point of being unfunny. While David Mitchell rants and comes across as amusing and lovable, Brooker just seems maniacal.Keyser Söze wrote:Glen Miller wrote:Is Black Mirror any good?

Probably because they have a plot. Feels like there is less and less of those around.

That's my point. It was not only the first English TV show to ever get nominated for a Golden Globe, it actually won it too.

I feel like that is an abundance of shows lately with plot. We are living in a golden age of television.

It's like David Lynch said:
television is way more interesting than cinema now. It seems like the art house has gone to cable.

I tried to watch the original series a couple of years ago and it felt dated as fuck, I couldn't enjoy it.

Re: Chat Thread
Yeah it hasn't aged all that well when you compare it to the slick production values of todays TV shows. But I think that 90's vibe adds to the quirkiness that draws people to it. I don't think a show as odd as that could be done in todays standards so I don't know how this reboot will turn out. Sort of how shitty actions films are enjoyable if they're from the 80's/90's but they are just cringe worthy in the post 2000 era. People are just more excited at getting a real ending after leaving it on a cliffhanger for 25 years.

Hope it's the first season so I don't have to devote 6 whole hours or whatever it may be.ResurrectionRooney wrote:Zzonked wrote:Not usually a big fan of British TV series. Father Ted
The 3 great episodes are spread across both seasons.
I watch Father Ted and wonder how shows like The Big Bang Theory ever get produced.

Father Ted is great, feel like British comedies are usually better than dramas.
Does anyone watch It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia? Onto season 3 of that, the third season is hilarious and a lot better than the first two.

Chirpy Burpy is my favourite episode. What are the 3 great episodes? Besides CBCS, I like "Are You Alright There?" and "A Song for Europe" best.ResurrectionRooney wrote:Glen Miller wrote:

Having said that, looking at a list of episodes, I couldn't really pick out any weak ones. The Christmas Special was brilliant as well.

Are you right there is fucking superb. "It's not the Greeks he's after, it's the Chinese" "Well as long as I can have a go at the fecking Greeks. They invented gayness!"
The Passion of St. Tibulus is also brilliant.

Is that the racist episode? The one when he has the hitler mustache from the window? That one is great.

Yeah, it's superb. Love Speed 3 as well, Pat Mustard is amazing.
