I just finished Season 1, so here are my thoughts.ResurrectionRooney wrote:I've just finished Season 1. My thoughts on D'Angelo

He's a shithouse with no moral fibre. He talks and talks and talks about how bad the game is, how he wants out, he cries about how
it's terrible what happened to Wally, to the stripper etc., then one conversation from his mother and he shits out and takes the fall to save all of the cunts in charge. He chooses staying in the game and going to jail over getting out of it and putting some extremely nasty individuals away. I was disappointed his sentence was so light.
- Spoiler:
- I think the important thing, especially at this early stage, is that he is one of 2 gangsters (Wallace is the other) to recognize the immorality of some of their actions. All of the other characters just act without questioning anything.
I definitely agree that he is ultimately spineless so far, but would have happened had he stood up to his uncle or accepted a plea bargain to help the police? Realistically, wouldn't he either be killed by Avon/one of his cronies or shipped away in Witness Protection? At this point, I guess it was key for the writers to preserve one of their best characters, and I think it might be a bit too early for him to make a huge stand.
How do you see it?

- As far as he knew he'd be taken off to witness protection, ie. out of the game, free to pursue an education and a legitimate career.
On your interpretation of why he didn't make a stand, I prefer to look at things from a Watsonian point of view rather than a Doylist one. I judge him in the context of the story, rather than his utility to the writers. In any case, before I started season 2 I wasn't sure whether any characters would carry over, let alone all of the characters from the first season. I was half expecting an entirely new cast.

I definitely agree with your take on it, I was just explaining why I sympathize with the decision.ResurrectionRooney wrote:Glen Miller wrote:

His name was Johnny Fifty or something because he drank 53 beers on his birthday and they rounded it down. Far too many characters in this show.

- More s2e6:
- Tragic wanking accident, what a way to go. Thought he might have been bluffing when he went limp, seemed to go out very fast. He really should have flipped, the stupid cunt. RIP.
Omar's performance was excellent. I can't stop seeing him as Chalky White though.

RR, I watched the first two seasons and liked them a lot. But something happened at the end of the second season that made me reluctant to keep watching. Plus reviews got gradually worse with each season. Are seasons 3 and 4 worth watching in your opinion?

I think I watched one episode but then forgot to watch any more. Still need to watch Hannibal too, although I hated it after 4 episodes I'm assured it gets better.

- Big Boardwalk Empire Season 2 Spoiler:
- The show did lose a fair bit when Jimmy died but I think it had to happen, he tried to conquer Nucky and he failed, Owen took his old job and there wasn't much else for his character to do.
It is definitely worth sticking with. Season 2 is probably the best season and 3 is probably better than 4 but it's all really great TV.
