Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
I liked Carroll, but I realized its never going to work out for him here. Decent amount of money recouped and now he can play for a team that suits his style. Everyone wins.

Is that four players we're close to signing? Hard to keep track.

Aspas, Alberto, Mignolet, Mkhitaryan

Still need some backbone if Suarez is off, doubt the leadership qualities of these four players. Big games may become more uncomfortable.

Aspas is supposed to be a tough cookie and Mkhitaryan's quality should hopefully show through.

Apas has a fiery mentality and has been compared to Bellamy. I have no doubt he'd be well up for the big games.
Alberto will probably be like Coutinho. Not particularly fiery, but his fluidity and skill will prove important.
Mkhitaryan is a fantastic player. I'm sure he'd be giving it his all in the big games too.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
So, Alberto is on Merseyside having a medical right now.
That makes our confirmed signings (or pretty much confirmed signings) Toure, Aspas and Alberto so far.
Not bad.

9 million seems a nice deal, might as well join in on the Belgium mania. Still holding out for a world-class signing, but Alberto seems like he will eventually fit that bill.

I do not see a world class signing in the near future, unless Real Madrid use a player as part-exchange. I don't see why any player would want to swap Madrid for Merseyside nowadays, though.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
Okay, so far we've confirmed:
Kolo Toure
Iago Aspas
Luis Alberto
And it's looking likely that in the next few days, we'll confirm the signing of Simon Mignolet.
Overall, I'm pretty pleased with our business so far. I can't wait to see Coutinho and Alberto light up the pitch together this season. I like how we're bringing in Spanish players too .. it's reminiscent of the Rafa days.
Now, hopefully we'll bring in a strong centre back and Mkhitaryan.

Midfield anchorman is my biggest priority, defence just didn't get enough protection with the reborn erratic lucas. That position is vital in the big games.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
Will Reina stay? It would seem odd if he did. Mignolet won't want to be second choice the year before the World Cup, while making Reina second choice would only make him cheaper next summer. We should definitely be looking to at least break even with this Mignolet in/Reina out deal.
I think our CB signing will be a bit out of the blue. I can't see Papadopoulous or Tobias Alderweireld coming in.

We don't really seem to be linked to that sort of player
The Barcelona way is the style Rodgers seems to be going for, and to be fair, they don't have beast in DM position. Just Sergio.
Hopefully we'll have too much of the ball to even worry, and Lucas should suffice.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
Lucas gets so much unfair criticism. He is intelligent, has adequate passing abilities (88 percent accuracy, my friends-equal to the greatest midfielder on earth, Michael Carrick), and is solid positionally. He gives away a few silly fouls, but that is something that seems to go along with that position-he'll normally be facing the most clever and skillful players. And also, regarding fouls, Lucas very rarely puts himself in danger of getting a red card, something Mascherano and Momo Sissoko always seemed to relish for some odd reason.
I would much prefer that Lucas continues to do what he does and get criticized than have some player in the mold of Tiote or Wanyama who gets praised for their "gritty and steely" attitude and their "get stuck in there lad" mentality. Do we want to have our fullbacks pushed up & central defenders spread so that Lucas can drop deep and dictate the pace, or do we want the team to shift around like that so that Diame or Wanyama can rush forward with the ball and give it away after shoving three opponents away?

Where is everyone?
Also if Suarez would hurry up and leave it would be dashing.
