Team looked good. Pace up top with a fluid midfield working well behind. It was Reading mind, but after Bradford I'm not sure we can beat anyone
I actually love Wilshere too. What a player he is, definatley on his way to being an Arsenal great IMO. Just hope we don't fall so far he moves on before that happens.

It was Reading yeah but I think the midfield actually playing pass and move football with Wilshere leading the pressing. If it continues like that we could easily play good football, wide options apart from Chamberlain were average though, that's where the struggle for goals will still come if no winger's bought in Jan

So why would he need to put himself in the 'shop window'? I'm sure most English clubs have seen enough of him..

If you walk by two shop windows and one window has a shiny toy car, and the other has a toy car caked with dust and mangled by the teeth of some vicious canine, which car would you buy?Mal wrote:So why would he need to put himself in the 'shop window'? Jack Wilshere, Kieran Gibbs, Alex-Oxlaide Chamberlain, Aaron Ramsey and Carl Jenkinson have signed long term contract with the club.
Really great news, just need to tie down Walcott, Sagna (hopefully), Cazorla , Vermaelen and Koscielny.

Yeah I know, but there's no harm in him signing another one. Forgot about Koscielny, you lot are pathetic really on this Vermaelen hate, I'll continue to support him as he's our captain. Up his arse in his debut season, now all calling for his head , complete jokers you lot are.

Not really, we can all see he's been shit this season, Theo hasn't got anything to do with it. I still think he can step it up so I haven't lost hope in him or calling for his head, but I wouldn't be giving him another contract anytime soon, there's no need.
One plus with him is that i've noticed he's making less stupid runs upfront, but he's still smashing the ball forward whenever he gets it which I don't get.
Watch our last 5 games, from kick off we pass to Vermaelen who then smashes it towards the RW, who's normally 5ft 9 and we lose the ball straight away.

As a defender Vermaelen has had some poor performances this season but despite that he is a good player and makes plenty of last ditch tackles. He plays out from the back well aswell, he's far from a Carragher "smash it up field" type, that's a load of shit.

I never said he was like that, he's much better technically, but he's been doing it a lot recently so it's not a load of shit it's a fact of late.

He hasn't been shit this season, just been below par, he's had good performances like against Liverpool, Stoke and a couple others, but it seems like all of you lot can't wait for him to make a mistake then call him a waste etc, worst captain we've had etc . The reason I said Theo is because once he started stating it on here then everyone started following him, but yeah. Why won't you be giving him one anytime soon? Because he's had a not so great start like his debut season? I'd actually laugh if he starts performing to his best again then fucks off the end of this season or the season next, then see you lot moaning because we lost another key player.arsenalap11 wrote:19Jones19v wrote:Yeah I know, but there's no harm in him signing another one. The majority of the times he made forward runs was when the team weren't creating anything, losing, or just needed another body in the box. Yeah I did notice it mainly in the Reading game, but it seems like that's what he's been told because Mertesacker finds the short passes to Arteta or Wilshere who builds and Vermaelen lumps it up top, but it's not a cause for concern and it wasn't as frequent to say last 5 games.

Mal, I know you have a problem with me but fuark, let it go, it's just depressing now. You know perfectly well that putting themselves in the "shop window" is a phrase used in football for when a player ups his performance when the transfer window is looming.

There's no need to give him one, or is there? How long is left on his current contract?
And summarise everyone, we don't all think he's the worst captain ever e/t/c, I think he's been playing quite poorly this season and you say about these last ditch tackles and stuff but why does he have to make them in the first place?
The thing about Theo is rubbish. He's been saying it for ages, and almost everyone on here actually disagreed with him for ages until Vermaelen started to play poorly for his standards. It has nothing to do with people following him.
And again, stop saying 'there', I like you but you're acting as if you're superior to everyone.

Not against this statement or for it, but on the last ditch tackles bit they do say Maldini rarely needed to make any tackles or last ditch tackles because he read the game so well.

Is this serious? could you please explain to me...
...How he's the captain needed on the pitch
Because I sure as fuck don't see it
... How he leads the back line
Because he runs out like a lunatic
... How he actually intercepts plays
Because I haven't seen him do it near enough times as Mertesacker or Koscileny

Re: Official Arsenal FC Thread
Well it seemed like you aren't up with giving him one because of his performances, you said "Vermaelen..." Would you be happy with him leaving when his contract runs out? The majority of Arsenal fans on this forum (when I say everyone). I never said anything about last ditch tackles, but Vermaelen's been known for that because of his poor positioning, however he makes up for it in the tackles, blocks etc. I don't think I'm superior to anyone on here, there's plenty of intelligent posters on this forum. It's "They're" by the way.arsenalap11 wrote:19Jones19v wrote:

Other than Arteta he's the 2nd most experience fit player we have starting regularly, I would say Sagna should have been captain, but he was out for the summer. Wilshere comes into play, but again he was injured and I feel it would be too much for him right now, possibly next season (If Vermaelen leaves). Other than Sz no1 else takes control to organise things, Vermaelen does it, but not enough I admit.Carlos Jenkinson wrote:19Jones19v wrote: Don't worry Theo, you've done well in getting these people to jump on the Vermaelen bandwagon.

He has hardly done that this season, last season yeah and that was due to us trailing, nothing being created, trying to give the team another option and he came up with a couple winners last season, don't see how that's a bad thing when he won us points last season and seasons before due to it. As I said before, he hasn't done it as much this season.
Tbh that's Mertesackers speciality in defending and of course his long legs help him out, Koscielny as well he's become good at it as the season's gone by.
I never even said Vermaelen intercepts the play, but I will give answers for others comments if you want. There's weaknesses Vermaelen, Koscielny and Mertesacker have and strengths also. I go back on my statement earlier on stating our best partnership was Vermaelen and Koscielny, I'd go with Vermaelen and Mertesacker now.
I remember last season when Mertesacker was the cause of some of our defeats, lack of pace, getting beat in the air as tall as he is, not being strong enough etc, he never got half the stick Vermaelen is receiving. Is it because he hasn't got 80 odd caps and he's not German?
Hopefully he gets back to his best again and shows the top quality he has in his locker.
