Re: Major League Soccer (MLS) Thread
They are bad, but they actually had three good chances to score in the second half. If they had held on, they would have gotten by Alajuelense in the next round, I think.

Goal scored by a guy who was playing college ball a couple of months ago. What a ball, what control with his chest, and then the gall to finish it all off.

Coné is going to get crucified in Hidalgo for letting the ball slip between his legs like that.

Tonnes of people in the UK don't even care about the Champions League. Mostly lower league fans.

Yeah, probably also should have had more guys back trying to hold that lead with no time left.

Yo if Montreal win they'll be the first Canadian team to win a Champions League (or it's past equivalents) right?
I'm a sucker for underdogs.

I assume so. DC and LA the only MLS teams to win it, but that was back when it was a completely different tournament. Straight knock outs, only in US, I think (basically a SuperLiga prequel).

The A-League does mate.Weather130 wrote:What gets more coverage in the UK, A League or MLS? Both leagues suffer from a serious timezone difference but seem to be on equal standing.

I've never ever heard of the A-League. I assume it's Australia?

Come on, everybody knows that when you play someone in FIFA for the first time, you go easy on them and choose Adelaide United.ResurrectionRooney wrote:I've never ever heard of the A-League. I assume it's Australia?

Speak for yourself, when I play friends on FIFA for the first time I play as Real Madrid and give them as severe a beating as possible. I do that because I respect them.

Yeah, that's probably the most RR story I have ever heard.ResurrectionRooney wrote:Glen Miller wrote:

It's always the Irish League, A-League, or MLS for me. I don't want to offend them.

Indeed, Glennie boy. Last ditch effort saved the start of the season. So some of us in this forum can get paid on Saturday.

Haha. Was thinking about going to that game, but think I'll go later in June. Was hoping for a bit better of a free kick goal, but still a nice moment.

Both teams played like it was their first ever game in MLS. Still an enjoyable match though.
Toronto to win it all this year then?

Re: Major League Soccer (MLS) Thread
They started the same way last year. 2x1 win at Seattle, Defoe with both goals. So they have this in them. It just that they then will fall apart. So if they are playing this well into June, maybe. Until then, too early.

Giovinco looks like he could destroy the league if he puts the effort in.

Re: Major League Soccer (MLS) Thread
I didn't see the game, other than the highlights, but certainly, he possesses abilities that few in the league that could see him tear the league up. My only thing about not seeing the game is I wonder if anyone from Vancouver made a hard challenge to send him a message of sorts.
In United's game against Montreal, Bobby Boswell did something like that to Nacho Piatti. Piatti basically did whatever he wanted to against Pachuca, but early in the game Saturday, when the opportunity presented itself, Boswell went in and gave a shoulder to Piatti, giving up a foul near midfield. Davy Arnaud also got an early takedown in, but I believe there was no call on him on that one.
But Piatti then spent the rest of the game being invisible, trying to find space around the core of United's defense that was occupied by Arnaud and Boswell. And Piatti is no slouch himself, with plenty of Copa Libertadores experience, as recently with San Lorenzo last year (a Copa which San Lorenzo won).
So I'm curious to as whether someone from Vancouver tried to send that message early. And if they didn't how would Giovinco respond once faced with that situation. Because this league still has its enforcers that will want to test him (not injure him, but test his mental strength instead).
Also, with Bradley and Altidore to miss at least 6 games this season while with the US, it'll be interesting to see how the team does with just Giovinco the main point of attack.

If you are still unsure it is Australia, they like to do that in Asia because you also have the I League (India), J League (Japan), K League (South Korea), and V League (Vietnam).ResurrectionRooney wrote:I've never ever heard of the A-League. I assume it's Australia?
If the A League get more coverage in the UK it might be the timezone difference is more bearable.

Re: Major League Soccer (MLS) Thread
The 62,000 total for the first Orlando home game is impressive in that area since previous teams in that area have failed. I imagine this is a very large crowd for an MLS game. Did it make the top ten for best attended MLS games?
