Who actually are these guys? I was just reading an article on the West Ham investigation into Anti Semitic chanting and this was in it:

People say this all the time but I don't think they really understand the purpose of a society for (insert racial/ethnic group) (insert profession/hobby/etc.)

Why can't they call themselves 'Lawyers against racism' or something similar? I'm sure there are plenty of white lawyers who wish to see racism gone. Making a group that only allows black lawyers to join doesn't help anything.

You do realizing that if these groups never existed things would be exactly like they were 40 years ago?

Without groups like the ones you are complaining about even White Women wouldn't be allowed to vote, let alone people of color.

black people are of course in a minority, there is no need for a white person equivalent because white people don't often get abuse for their race as they are the vast majority of the population.

I did explain it to him.

I told him that without these groups existing things would be exactly like he imagines things to be 40 years ago.

How else can I explain this without bring out timelines, and flash cards, with a pop quiz in the end?

It's like Crump thinks society just stopped being racist (which it hasn't by the way) without having civil rights group pushing for equality.

Racism still exists today but the fact that we still have groups that disallow someone because they aren't black is holding us back.

The Society of Black Lawyers isn't racist. They aren't all black either. They have Asian and Carribean lawyers. The SBL fights for all minorities. Just as this article says, they are fighting against Jewish racism. The reason they wouldn't associate with a white lawyer is because that defeats the purpose of the group. They don't need to fight for the rights of white people, because they aren't a minority. That's also why there isn't any Society of White Lawyers. It's not because white people don't see race.

Probably because when they started, they consisted of just black members and that was their main minority focus.
