At present we've only lost one lad who was a key player for us last season in Luke Summerfield, and we've already signed a replacement for him in Sam Deering. If we can get a decent striker then we will challenge the top three again next season. That's the only area that severely let us down last season at times. Brilliant football with no end product.

Ben, you have our former Captain/club legend Cliff Byrne on trial, do you think you'll sign him?

Re: npower Football League Thread
Martin Allen's interviews are great but he always seems to waffle on about the same things over and over again.
It sounds like he's been working the players hard in pre-season already though, a few players tweeted how tired they were. Gillingham were often tired after 75 minutes so hopefully Allen will make them last 90. They conceded vs Crewe with the last kick of the game with about 5 games to go, Crewe ended up 1 point ahead of Gillingham and winning the playoffs!

He is quite shit nowadays, he is a very good captain though. He always gives 100%, is a great leader but he will give away quite a few penalties and will get booked a lot because of his lack of pace.Ben 10 wrote:Trent wrote:Ben, you have our former Captain/club legend Cliff Byrne on trial, do you think you'll sign him?

Yes. He seems happy here and we are under no pressure to sell him due to the profits we've made in the last 2 seasons. Will take at least £400,000 to prize him away from us. Bet Portsmouth regret letting him go on a free transfer to us now.

Re: npower Football League Thread
The planned pre-season game with Wigan Athletic Development Squad, coached by former manager Graham Barrow, has been re-arranged.
This game will now take place on Thursday 02 August, kick off 7:30pm at Gigg Lane. Admission to this game will remain at £5.00 for adults and £2.00 for all concessions. The main stand only will be used for this game, blocks A to D for home supporters and the family side for away supporters.
Bury will now play Birmingham City on Tuesday 31 July. New Blue’s manager Lee Clark, ably assisted by another former Shaker Terry McDermott, will be bringing a full strength side to Gigg Lane for the game.
I may actually head to the Birmingham game.

Just as I'm thinking about it, how come Bury cancelled their pre-season match against Coleraine a number of weeks ago?

Apparently it wasn't even close to being announced and there were just discussions.
I'd have been up for going to it as well.

Ah right I see. I would of probably been going up to it also, the only friendly that really interested me. The rest of ours are against teams we should be beating, with the exception of the Mexico u-20 Milk Cup squad.

They would be very good I would of thought, we drew 1-1 with the USA u20 Milk Cup squad last season and it was hailed as a great result.

We aren't, but we came so close to qualifying last season. We missed out after loosing our final game of last season and our rivals for the qualifying spots both won. 2nd and 3rd qualified for the Europa League qualifying rounds, we finished 4th.

Ah unlucky, I think I saw a Northern Irish team on Sky Sports news the other day score a screamer in a Uefa Cup match but I've forgot what team it was.

I'm guessing that would be Portadown FC (team in red) winning 2-1 against a Macedonian side?

Re: npower Football League Thread
Been away all weekend. Come back to find out David Clarkson will link up with us for pre-season.
Oh yeah and we beat the Marines in pre-season 3-0 Harrold, Anyinsah and Zebroski with the goals.
Dave Clarkson has linked up with Bristol Rovers for pre-season training, reuniting with former Motherwell coach Mark McGhee.
The striker, who was released by rivals Bristol City in the summer, played under Rovers manager Mark McGhee at Motherwell.
The 26-year-old then moved to Bristol City in 2009 for a reported fee in the region of £800,000.
The Scotland international found himself frozen out of first-team matters at Ashton Gate and joined Brentford on a month's loan last season, scoring one goal in four matches.
Clarkson scored 26 goals in 72 games for McGhee during his time at Fir Park.

McGhee on the game:
McGhee confirmed the triallist German winger Fabian Broghammer. Wiki'd him he's 22 and has played at youth levels for Hoffenheim and Stuttgart. He's also played at youth levels for Germany and was part of their u17 squad that finshed 3rd in the u17 WC in 2007.
Glad to see Shaq impressed. Still depressing that he's only just turned 17."I was impressed with the opposition as I didn't know what to expect or what the standard would be like, but they gave us a good game."
Whilst it was the opening pre season friendly, there were impressive performances from Seanan Clucas and Shaquille Hunter in particular.
"Anyone who came down from Bristol will have seen that Seanan is a player who breaks things down gets his foot in and is all over people. He will obviously get a lot better than that, but that's his style.
"As for Shaquille, he did very well. He has the ability to run past people and take people on and he just gets up and gets on with things whenever he's kicked or knocked over. He does have to learn when to run and when to give the ball, and we have a lot of work to do with him, but the basic ingredients are there for him to become a really good player."

Rotherham's stadium looks like a carbon copy of Langtree park, apart from Rotherham's new stadium is probably all seater.

Won 5-0 today away to Brora Rangers (Scotland), 13 goals in two games Hat-trick from John Fleck.
Also signed our second French CB of the week, William Edjenguélé. Don't know much about him but he looked decent v Hinckley. Can't really complain with another player in on a free.

We beat Bray 1-0 tonight. Tom Newey played as a trialist who is a former codhead and he also played for Bury lol. Another trialist was Matty Mainwairing.

McGhee said along with Broghammer another two German triallists will be joining us this week.
Want to sign Broghammer just for the chants! It's hammer time.
