i think you also forget how many injuries we had in midfield in the CL last season. we had the likes of Jones and Giggs in there for the important last group match

Barcelona won't give a fuck about defending because they'll have the ball for 80 minutes of the match and we won't have enough defensive midfielders to get it off them. Madrid won't because they have better attackers.

And yeah, we had injuries last season. We'll have injuries this season as well, because Ferguson is sticking with Darren Fletcher who is clearly knackered, sticking with Anderson and Cleverley who are notoriously injury prone, and sticking with Giggs and Scholes who are on the verge of retirement.

Let's say Ferguson's plan comes off, and we acquire all of these players, what is the plan if we come up against Barcelona? Show me what your formation is. We'll be generous and assume everyone bar Fletcher is fit.

I know, but still, the last time we won that double we had a destroyer, he was very mobile and always destroyed plays for the opposition, even when he was playing out wide. He did move into the middle to form a 4-3-3 when he was playing on the wing though.

Ridiculous comment. City won the League and didn't win the CL, United finished 2nd and went out in the group stage, Arsenal finished 3rd in the Premier League and couldn't reach the Quarter Finals. Ferguson has won about 12 Premier Leagues and only two Champions Leagues. It's patently obvious to anyone with half a mind that winning the CL is the more difficult achievement, Chelsea winning the Champions League doesn't change that.

Whops, I meant 3-4-3., and then messed it up Sad Remove Kagawa, or put him on the right.

There is no serious answer other than a re-enactment of what we tried in 2009, only with worse players this time. The players we have been linked with are not good enough for us to compete with Barcelona on a level playing field, and we have a profound lack of players to try and shut up shop against them.

The likes of Kagawa, Van Persie and Moura would certainly provide us with far more ability and posession, uhm... prowess? than before. Van Persie and Rooney interhcnanging, Rooney dropping deep, Van Persie making runs out wide and through the middle, Moura using his ability on the ball to open up space, Ando and Carrick doing most of the leg work in the middle (with rooney helping out), Rafael/Valencia and Evra/new Lb bombing up and down the flanks to provide both cover and pressure into midfield. Solid defensive wall behind to attempt to prevent being hit on the counter when the fullbacks are up the field. Essentially we would be defending with a 5-3-2, and attacking with a 3-2-5, with highly mobile and skillful wingers/attackers, providing us with a much stronger counter attack.

What, more than Tevez, Berbatov and Ronaldo? I don't think so.

To be honest I thought you were joking with the 3-4-3 formation. I do think there may be some merit to such a move, but there's more chance of Barcelona using 5-4-1 for the next 10 years than Ferguson switching to using a formation with 3 centre backs at the age of 71. It took him 20 years and Carlos Queiroz to start using 4-3-3, and that's since been abandoned, he's not going to change to such a profoundly different system at this age, even for a couple of games.

More than them? No. More than we do now? Most definitely. As you well know I agree that we need reinforcements in midfield, but if everyone aside from Fletcher is fit, we actually do have a pretty solid overall squad, which would be greatly improved by the technical expertise of Kagawa, Moura and Van Persie. For obvious reasons.

He probably won't, but as I see it a formation like that would work very well with the playing staff we would have at our disposal in the given scenario. Sticking to the 4-4-2 is as good as impossible against a midfield trio anyway, and would be a waste of the talent Kagawa, Van Persie, Rooney and Moura posess in the given scenario in my personal opinion.

Better than the last white kit we had though.

I reckon the red line looks nice, it adds something to the kit otherwise it would be plain and boring. One of the best kits we've had in a while I would say.
