Oh yeah of course he's still world class, but I guess it's because a lot more people are talking him up now than before. Maybe because the main stars were Kaka and Shevchenko back then. Yeah the injuries certainly didn't help him, but as you said he's just as good as 2006.

I guess we could compare his style of play and role to Xabi Alonso although Pirlo pretty much invented that role. Pirlo or Alonso? Would go for Pirlo imo, even though his age doesn't help.

Yeah he's better than Alonso, Xavi is probably the only better regista/non-advanced midfielder.

Alonso has a different style anyway, and is much better defensively.

I'm excited about tomorrow. I've actually always loved watching Gerrard, it's his club that I never liked. It'll be interesting to see how he does against an experienced Italian midfield.

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of most English teams, but I do like watching the BPL. If I were to lean towards one team, it would probably be Arsenal because I enjoyed watching the likes of Bergkamp and Henry, and I'm a Wenger fan.

Nah he's definitely not a shit passer, but he does seem to pile an awful load of power into his passes, even if they're within 10 yards, but that's understandable as he's trying to avoid opponents. However I can see why Theo/Ben say's he a hoofball player who relies on power, we've seen examples of this with Liverpool last season.

Gerrard hasn't exactly been taking the easy option in this tornament either, he's been completing alot of forward/long passes to supply our forwards. Fantastic passer imo.

In the Italy squad he certainly isn't a better passer than De Rossi, Marchisio or Nocerino. He's probably on par with Thiago Motta.
