Prefer to watch it unfold first before buying the respective books. Though that can change since Storm of Swords seems to be a great read.

I don't get it, midway through season 2 I couldn't wait anymore, finished the books earlier this year, doing a re read now, don't regret a thing.

Surprised you say this considering I've seen you complain about differences between the books and the show on more than one occasion. If you'd been patient then you more than likely would have been equally satisfied by both instead of constantly hoping for the show to live up to your unrealistic expectations.

I don't think I complain about the changes, I merely point them out, there a lot of changes I can understand and some I wish the writers put in because it makes no sense to leave them out. If you want to see complaints watch Polska react to an episode.

I don't think the show could've given the same satisfaction as the series though, the series is already one of my favorites of all time, but as with any book to TV or book to movie translation the details really make it.

That's why it makes sense to watch the show first. There are always going to be additional details in the books that make the material worthwhile even if you already know how things develop for the most part. If you go from reading the books to watching the show, you're always going to be slightly dissatisfied. It just doesn't make sense to me on any level why one would start reading the books after the show started airing.

And you do complain about changes. You kept on emphasizing how the Mance-Jon conversation in the first episode was so much better in the novel.

I think if you're a casual fan, there is no need to interrupt the series to read the book. Witcher seems really into the story/world/characters, like I and a few others I know were after Season 1/2, so I asked why he didnt start the series. If you're deeply interested in the story I'd recommend reading the books even if the season is in already in progress like I did last year.

People routinely refrer to Mance and Jon's first conversation as one of the best passages in the series because it gives some actual background to the way Jon views himself (plus the dialogue that replaced it was lame), for the show to remove that scene and instead spend 2-3 minutes on Bronn with a whore was disappointing, a ton of people on forums complained about that, that's a legitimate gripe. I think "complaining" would be more along the lines of "why isnt x character here" or "why did they skip over * insignificant detail to grand sceme*"

But, to each his own, was just wondering if Witcher thought about it.

Considering it. I've still got a bit of the second book to finish, then I'll buy the third and either catch up or overtake if I get into it too much. Want to read the missing Walkers battle.

The books are obnoxiously long and some of the chapters are mind-numbingly boring.

I definitely did a fair bit of skim reading.

AFFC is the only book that felt long to me, and ASoS is a breeze, started last week and I'm in the 800s

Some of the chapters are pretty awful, either because of a boring plot-line, a character I can't sympathize with, or a ridiculously slow tempo just to keep in line with the rest of the story.

Sansa's chapters are absolutely dreadful. A book called "Storm of Swords" should not devoted countless chapters, each 15+ pages, to a girl whinging and talking about clothes. You could say that I am missing the point, but the writing for her chapters is so simplistic, it's almost pathetic. There's nothing poetic or figuratively beautiful about her thoughts or descriptions of things, Martin just uses them as filler chapters.

I can't believe you've read ASOS if that's your assessment of Sansa's chapters.

I've read the first two books and I am well into ASOS and I am struggling to motivate myself to read even 10 pages a night. It's absolutely brutal.

The most shocking scene has to be the Night Watchmen though.... Hope the other two survive because I don't want to be following Sam's bumbling ass throughout that storyline. guess that's why the guy from Torchwood was introduced for this season.

Big Bear was asking for it by letting that creep talk smack.

Yeah that cabin scene was wild. Did not expect the majority of it.

Good episode overall. Man, it's so hard to believe anyone when I see them talking privately during a 1on1.

Are you talking about Theon? I wasn't sure how genuine he was when expressed his regrets. Considering he is one of the most uncertain characters around. That little turn was great by...Bolton, I assume. This episode stands as the best so far this season.

Always thought Theon was genuine, considering his history, very excited to see how the show goes forward with him.
