He's the only reason anyone would want Wigan to stay up.

Roberto Martinez
If Wigan go down or stay up he'll obviously get offered bigger jobs, which clubs would be a good fit for him?

He rejected Villa because it is a poisonous job, I highly doubt he'd want an even more poisonous job.

I would say he is more than good enough for a top 8 club. Fact is, no one in their right mind would want the Liverpool job.

Re: Roberto Martinez
Spurs depends on whether they are providing a lot of money for a big name manager or if they wanna run on a sensible budget which will obviously rule out a lot of top managers.

Yea, I think him and Rodgers could be in the running based on the football they play.

Re: Roberto Martinez
Martinez plays more attractive football, much faster build up. Swansea's is just boring and I don't think Rodgers is that good of a manager. Sousa started the Swansea thing, hence the reason they had such a good defence.

I personally enjoy Rodgers football, and he's obviously a good manager, he's doing great with a Swansea side who arent that much better than Wigan.

Re: Roberto Martinez
I'm always wary of a manager of a smaller team getting a jump up to a big team like Spurs He's a nice guy though, and he plays good football.

Re: Roberto Martinez
Wigan get shafted so often but you hardly ever hear Martinez complain. One of my favourite managers

I would say the opposite with Martinez and Rodgers.

Re: Roberto Martinez
In what way is Rodgers a good manager? He took over a Swansea team that drew too many games under Sousa but had a pretty good defence. He did exactly the same as Sousa except stumbled across a couple of good players in the Championship.

If you're going to make that argument I guess you could say Martinez started it, Sousa didnt do alot imo.

Oh, all of you blinded by the PL pundits who big up any team they feel like. Wait until Swansea collapse next season, that collapse has already started.

To Spain, if Villarreal don't get relegated he should take over and build them up again.

I knew someone would bring this up.
Martinez did a good job at Swansea but just because he played passing football it does not mean he started the 'play to draw football' that Sousa and Rodgers both play.

Why would Rodgers set up his teams to draw? And even if he wanted to, theres more effective ways of doing it.

True.
But Rodgers added purpose to Swansea. He added that extra directness in there play. And fair play to Martinez and Rodgers with Swansea. Normally, when managers take a new job, they rip everything up what the previous manager did. Both managers built upon what the previous manager did, and what they were planning to do. So massive credit to them both.

Re: Roberto Martinez
Keeping the ball is a much more effective way of not losing.
Martinez 2008-2009 - 40 goals scored, 22 goals conceded - 8th place finish
Sousa 2009-2010 - 21 goals scored, 12 goals conceded - 7th place finish
Rodgers 2010-2011 - 41 goals scores, 11 goals conceded - 3rd place finish
These are home statistics, when a team is supposed to be more attacking. Looking at the starts alone will tell you Martinez played more open and risky football, whereas as we know, Rodgers plays risk free boring football.
Please bear in mind Sinclair scored 19 goals in the season Rodgers managed, the majority at home and without them the goals tally would be around 30 and the fact this was Swansea's third see in the 2nd tier.

Re: Roberto Martinez
I like his 3/5 at the back, Wigan play nice football as well. Kind of have a soft spot for them. I'd say Martinez' tactics might be more suited to continental football but bringing them into the Premiership is exciting as well.
I could imagine him managing Spurs tbh.

I'd say he'd be more suited to the PL with the less tactically aware managers he should have more success.
