Not really fair comment though. You never played a midfield like that when you had injuries, both Lucas and Gerrard would presumably start for you in midfield if fit at the moment. It's still a big difference in quality of course, but it's not as stark as you've presented it.

Adam and Downing. Fuck knows what Kenny saw in them. What anyone saw in them.

I had faith in Downing. I thought he would be average at least.

Adam, on the other hand...I had a gut feeling he would struggle.

I was wrong on both counts. They both absolutely suck.

Both cases I took no joy from the purchase. Adam I felt would be okishishishisihsih for the price, but I wept at the price for Downing. Banged my head against the wall till there was a river of blood.

It baffles me that Liverpool decided not to bring in a capable CDM for the time Lucas is out in January, I don't buy that 'players aren't available' shit, someone like Fernando would have been available for a loan at least. Spearing is clearly not good enough and he's the only real defensive midfielder in the first team.

100 million well spent. Got rid of a lazy Spanish striker who was holding us back as well.

Not to mention Lucas is a fine player when deployed in a more advanced position. It was a no-brainer for me.

Why would you want to deploy Lucas in a more advanced position.

His qualities are perfect for where he is. Keeping play ticking, covering the full backs and being the anchor for the team. While being a good playmaker.

I'm not saying that I would, necessarily. I'm saying that it would be nice to have the option to play him or whomever we signed in January there next season.

Lucas is not fine in an attacking position...

He's a good cdm - keeps it simple, that's about it.

That's not bad, but we're not going to sign either sooooooo

Pacey widemen, Sessegnon and Suarez are creative, and Lucas and maybe Henderson could control the midfield. Doesn't really solve the finishing problem though.
