I think if you're good enough for United, you're good enough for England personally. Premier League winner, and not just some cunt like Owen who didn't contribute, played a lot of games last season, and this.

There are a lot of other teams in the league, and a lot of other English centre backs.

At Man Utd there is Ferdinand, Jones and Smalling. That's already 3 English centre backs. You have so many from other teams.....and in a 23 man squad you can only bring maybe 5/6 centre backs if you include ones that are versatile. Is he in the top 5/6 centre backs who are English?....when you consider the other candidates, I just don't think so. For me, there are at least 9 better centre backs, and I'd give him the 10th though there are other good defenders at smaller clubs too.

Take a player with less experience, top level or not, and who isn't even as good a centre back as Smalling.

Phil Jones is more versatile though. He als amuses me because he looks like a fish.

They both have roughly the same experience. Playing some more games due to Maidstone doesn't really bother me

I think Jones is the more versatile player, and the more talented one. If I were to bring a player who is going to be a squad player....he either needs to be good enough to come in, be really versatile, or have the X Factor to change games. At the Euro's....Smalling is none of those for me, where as Jones is both versatile and has that X Factor....e.g. he set up Young for his goal yesterday....

Jones has to go, simply for his versatility as Lux has said.

I'd probably take Smalling but wouldn't start him so it doesn't make any difference.
