Barton on the England captaincy: Scott Parker ahead of Steven Gerrard………I’m speechless. #whatafarce

    Babel on the England captaincy:
Steve G playing tonight? Then I don't understand why he aint
captain? Did the FA decided that? I respect Parker as a player, good
midfielder but we are talkin about Steve G here..

I see it already happen Xavi laughing in his mind standing
infront of Parker before the game with the refs thinking " Who's he ? "

Somebody in my mentions said Parker had 10 caps and Gerrard 89
caps.. WELL !!! I got 40 caps for Holland.. I think I should atleast
wear the band once don't u think ? LMAO.

I bet Gerrard is fucking seething - especially with him coming out and saying he wanted the captaincy.

#LFC's Suso started for Spain U19s earlier in their 2-1 victory over France. Think it was his first international appearance.

What's there to cry about Suso getting his first start for Spain?

That last tweet was funny. Really should have been Gerrard but oh well. I'll bet he retires after the Euros anyway, and at the moment isn't Parker just considered captain for this game?

If it wasn't going to Gerrard I would have given it to Joe Hart. Best keeper in the league, one of the best in the world and will be England's #1 for years to come.

Taken off as a precaution, really when was the last time Gerrard was prematurely subbed off and not had the next couple of months out through injury?

He should never have said that really, it just made the manager's decision more difficult.

In all honesty, Gerrard was the worst player out there Wednesday, kept trying to force the issue unsuccessfully and giving the ball away. Personally I think he shouldn't have even made himself available, coming back from injury and having played 120 minutes on Sunday.

A lot of his doubters say he plays selfishly and is old fashioned, and I usually dismiss this as bullshit but I could see their point today. We may need to buy his successor at the end of the season.

This may look knee-jerk, and it partly is, but it is a problem that needs resolving, because our midfield is weak without Gerrard and dire without him and Lucas, and who knows if those two are/ will become injury prone. Gerrard isn't getting any younger either.

Agree with you saying he shouldn't have played given he played 120 mins in the Final. Was always gonna end bad.

I don't want us to replace Gerrard. We need a group of players capable of stepping up to fill the void, not just one arrogant, self centered midfielder that upsets the balance of the team.

The only real replacement is through a combination of players.

    I agree ricky//habana

It doesn't help when he's played in the deeper role and is forced to pull off some hollywood balls. I like to see him close to the striker - around the edge of the box - shooting, playing 1-2's and driving into the penalty area (and diving for penalties Liverpool FC Official Thread - Page 30 3925848005), this is when he's at his best.

    how about Aquilani? Very Happy

We should probably give up on Aquilani, he doesn't want to be here. I would love it if we could get him to play well for us, he can be quality.

I never really bought into the Aquilani hype. He played okay for us in a few games, but he was a really peculiar signing on the whole.

If Gerrard isn't available, Shelvey should start against Arsenal.

    Suarez
    Downing - Shelvey - Bellamy
    Adam - Spearing
    Enrique - Skrtel - Carragher - Kelly
    Reina.

I think we're going to get raped to be honest.

I like Shelvey, kinda irritated me we brought him back because of an injury to Lucas when they don't play the same role, then benched him.

Glen, I think if we managed to find the next Gerrard, we'd be pleased, at least I would, 10 years of pretty good service and loyalty to the club. Buying a group of players would mean at least one striker, and 2 centre mids, and at the moment we need wingers more than centre midfielders IMO.

Can someone explain to me how to use the multiquote function? I can't figure it out at all.

He was the Alonso replacement and did very well for us when played (which seemed to take forever). He was also our best playing in pre-season before he was loaned out.

I suppose. I guess what I was trying to say was that it is much more realistic to replace him with a few players. It's not very likely we'll find a player who controls the team (in so many ways, both positively and negatively) as much as he does for a long time.

If he doesn't want to be here, he doesn't want to be here. Shame, as I thought he could give us the creativity we lack again smaller teams.
