Why do you constantly fail to quote properly? I imagine that nothing will be done about the national chants about Park Ji Sung, as they are not abusive towards him. The chant about killing any bastard that gets in our way is metaphorical.
How is it abusive? People in Korea do eat dogs. And again, it's metaphorical. It's better than actually killing people anyway.

It's still a form of xenophobia which should be stamped out as soon as possible, would you agree RR?

It's not xenophobic, it's a song in his honour.Danno wrote:It's still a form of xenophobia which should be stamped out as soon as possible, would you agree RR?

I don't think it's fair to say that Park Ji Sung eats dog meat just because a small number of Koreans eat a bit of canine every now and then Seems like stereotyping to me.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
I will have to disagree with you there RR. In Britain the idea of eating dogs is a fairly taboo subject, a south Korean player comes along and fans sing songs about him eating dogs. Sounds fairly xenophobic to me.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
The reference is not to Park Ji-Sung in particular, the 'You' is a collective, as in 'South Koreans eat dogs', not necessarily Park. Park may have eaten a canine in his lifetime, I don't know.

Yes, very ambiguous.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
Surely that's stereotyping a nation? And as I've said before eating dogs is frowned upon in Britain. Which would make it a negative stereotype of the South Koreans would it not?

That is humorous there is no serious implication that Park will hunt down the opposition's pet dogs and eat them.Glen Damon wrote:"He shoots, he scores, he'll eat your labradors, Park Ji Sung, Park Ji Sung"ResurrectionRooney wrote:The reference is not to Park Ji-Sung in particular, the 'You' is a collective, as in 'South Koreans eat dogs', not necessarily Park. I have the utmost respect for South Korean culture, if you're so ignorant that you see it as a negative, that is your problem.Danno wrote:Surely that's stereotyping a nation? You contradict yourself here. You have the utmost respect for South Korean culture, yet you find a chant drawing upon a negative stereotype humorous?ResurrectionRooney wrote:That is humorous there is no serious implication that Park will hunt down the opposition's pet dogs and eat them.Glen Damon wrote:"He shoots, he scores, he'll eat your labradors, Park Ji Sung, Park Ji Sung"

5 Alsatians walking down a street
and if Ji Sung Park
Should fancy one to eat
there'll be 4 Alsatians walking down the street
Is unacceptable though.

I don't consider it a negative stereotype.

Ermmm...so if I was to go into an English school and open up my tin can of dog soup and pronounced it to be canine surprise, I would be respected for that?ResurrectionRooney wrote:Glen Damon wrote:You contradict yourself here. What is the answer? I suspect if a man walked into a school and started offering children surprises he would be escorted of the premises.Glen Damon wrote:I think you know the answer, champ.ResurrectionRooney wrote:

It implies that Park has no self control, and kills dogs willynillyly.Glen Damon wrote:If it's not a negative stereotype, then why is this unacceptable?ResurrectionRooney wrote:5 Alsatians walking down a street

Apologies, Mr. RR. My comment was meant in jest, and was in no means intended to suggest that you are a raging sexual predator.
I forgot to add the emoticon.
