Although when you think about it, it's quite possible. The media has shunned people from certain things without knowing anything about it. I'm not saying that everyone who knows what Islam is truly about is going to convert. But ignoring the effect of the media bias is naivete.

He's obviously not saying that. He's saying that if he were not brought up Muslim he wouldn't have gone out of his way to join a religion that the media and general public labels as terrorists. Not even close to how you're interpreting it.
