now your assuming im a celtic fan!!!!
take that back. i have no second team, im not a fucking cretin.
i support one team, i support them properly by possessing a season ticket and attending as many games home and away as is reasonably possible. i may appreciate the football that is played by other clubs in far flung corners of the world, but would never be a fan of them. i support a team in my country, no one elses, i would never forsake them or my glorious nation in pursuit of greener pastures elsewhere.
my team may be shit, ordinary at best. but they're my shit and i love them wit every part of my being!
what im trying to say is i have no allegiance towards celtic, i am a Wolves supporter.
how dare you?!
from the above paragraph, you can probably work out i have a very different view of what a fan is than what (and forgive me, im assuming here) your 'scientific' survey suggests.
i said nothing about 9M fans, i just think celtic have a larger fan base than newcastle both in the UK and abroad. and i suspect celtic have more followers in the UK than any other team. your survey does does not disprove that.
Sorry if I insulted you
Your view on a fan is different than that of the survey, that doesn't mean the survey wasn't conducted in a scientific way. By your defintion, the ones that go to games, the only real indicator of a fan would be season ticket holders, and those on the waiting list for a season ticket. Correct?
The survey shows that Celtic has 1.4M fans in the UK. Manchester United and Liverpool both have over 4M, and Arsenal have over 3M. That alone disproves that.
you dont need a season ticket, or be on the waiting list. you dont even have to be a member!
i understand that people are constrained by circumstances - money, family, work or lack thereof - but a fan has to make a concerted effort to see 'their' team play.
i live a fair distance from Wolverhampton in a town inhabited by thousands of man u, chelsea, arsenal, spurs, liverpool and lately man city 'fans' who have never been to a game! im not talking kids either, kids can be forgiven although i know the majority will turn out the same!
my friends father, a united fan is in his 60's and has never been to old trafford! i just think that to be a fan you should do more than buy a replica shirt and hang a pennant in your window. there is absolutely no excuse for not making a concerted effort to watch your team play when the opportunity arrises. these fucking arseholes dont even try!
the survey is not scientific, if it were it would take into account many variables of which there seem to be no evidence of in the results.
this is another assumption but i have a feeling that as long as someone owns a replica shirt or has a arsenal beach towel and 'supports' their team by tuning into MOTD then they are fans. i disagree with this but i dont think a marketing survey would!
