Football Ground in the best and worst location? Empty Football Ground in the best and worst location?

Post by Guest Wed Jan 04, 2012 5:57 am

Out of all the grounds you've been to, which ground do you think is in the best and worst location?

For me, the best has to be either Forest or Blackpool; but to prevent accusations of being biased I'm gonna say Blackpool. There's not many away days where you can start off in a Sports Bar having a pint with your mates, before then heading into an Amusements Arcade, followed by pissing around on the beach making sand knobs and then going on the Waltzers on the pier. Oh, and then you have to go to the football Laughing

Worst i've been to is probably the ground we played at in Portugal this summer. It's half an hour walk from the Strip, and about 20 minute walk from the Old Town where we started; despite being told it's only 5 mins away. Plus it's up hill in 35'c in July. Absolutely knackered. Nothing around it neither apart from houses as it's far away from all the holiday resorts and the beach. Closest thing to it was a KFC on the main road 10 minutes away.

In England i'd say Middlesbrough. In the middle of an industrial dump.

Shrewsbury Town, in the middle of nowhere Neutral If you go on train then you have to pay £5 to get on coaches to get to the ground via police escort.

If you refuse you get sent home Laughing

I loved going Stockport away, train station was around the corner and chippys and pubs were all around you between the short journey from station to ground.

As Jordi said getting to Selhurst Park from Leeds on a minibus was wank. Also Brighton, great ground but it's in the middle of nowhere and the transport links are proper shite.

Quite liked Rochdale, town centre ground so easy to park on the street nearby and the chippy behind the away stand was quality. Enjoyed the stroll up Green Street to Upton Park as well, was a bit of a shit hole area like but it was a cracking day. Best for me though was Burnley, quick walk from station to McD's for breakfast then onto the cricket club which backs onto the stand! So we sat in the sun getting lashed and then had to walk for no more than 30 seconds to get in to the ground. Great stuff.

Got a bit confused finding the away end at Sheffield Wednesday a few years ago, none have been particularly difficult to get to though.

Would say Coventry is the best as its right next to a Tesco which allows you to park there What a Face

The Emirates is simple to get to aswell, off the train, over a bridge and your there.

For London club's.....the worst are probably Millwall, Palace and Charlton. Have to get to London Bridge and it costs quite a lot to go by National Rail Neutral.

The best is probably Chelsea or Fulham.....very nice and easy to get to and the walk isn't long....lots of shops and pubs nearby. Watford's isn't too bad but it could be better...especially if you're comparing it to a place like Blackpool.

Most of the stadiums outside of London that I have been to are in the middle of nowhere......e.g. Leeds, Reading and Hull

From what I remember, Anderlecht's was in a really nice location. Not a far walk from the main square in Brussels and right by the ground is a really nice park.

Our ground is in a random area, you have to walk 10/15 minutes to get to the town centre so if you are going by train you are fine as thats where you will get off by the tram but if you get the coach their isn't much apart from a few pubs nearby and a takeaway.

That's the one yeah, chips and curry sauce were good. Ah, I hate it when grounds aren't near the stations! I drove to Rochdale straight after work so it wasn't so bad. Got away quite handy as well.

Will have to get the coach to Cov if we go, not happy about that! Hate coaches and they're too expensive.

I wouldn't go to any away game by train if it's out of London.

If coaches are expensive...I dunno what you consider trains to be. Whenever I try and book tickets, even if I do it months in advance.....it's like £70 if I'm lucky...usually more like £120 for a return for one person Neutral

Big fan of Crewe's surprisingly. Plenty of spaces to park and they have a really nice cheap chip shop right next to the away end. Perfect after a two hour car journey after not having much to eat.

The park behind Aldershot's away end is also very nice.

But the niceset location I've been to watch a football matach was in Stourbridge. The ground was shite but the surrounding areas were brilliant.
    -

Worst would be Gillingham, Vale and Luton. Gillingham and Burslem are massive shit holes. Walked down some allies in Gillingham and found ladies underwear scattered all over the floor, and many of the homes had boarded up windows with crap on their front gardens. Burslem's only saving grace is having a few pubs, but other then that it's the same as Gillingham. Luton's stadium is located in the town centre but it was very hard to find any where to park near the stadium. Ended up parking about 2 miles from the stadium and had to sprint to the stadium in time for kick off.

If we're doing it from a pubs perspective (lets face it, that's a nice important factor Wink ) Then I thought Bramall Lane was class. We were forced to go in one of two pubs but they were right by the train station and the one we picked, The Globe, was quality! Good cheap beer, really good food and good atmosphere.

Yeah man, got there before the bar opened, bit keen. Laughing Food did look nice, although the fat birds cooking it and the kitchen didn't! I only realised there was a bar downstairs as well a few minutes before we left. We were out on the balcony talking to them Budweiser FA Cup promo girls then went to sit in the sun with some Jagerbombs. Was a great pre-match!
