Football-related arrests in England and Wales fell to a new record low last season, according to figures from the Home Office.
Just 3,089 fans were detained at domestic and international matches, including games played abroad, during the 2010-11 season - down 302 from the year before.
It is the lowest level since records began in 1984/5.
The highest number of arrests - 276 - was of fans attending Manchester United games.
However, the Premier League champions also have by far the largest average match attendance of 75,000.
There were no arrests at 70% of games last season and 51% of all matches were played with no police in attendance.
Top 5: Clubs With Most Fans Arrested
:: Manchester Utd - 275 arrests (avg attendance 75,109)
:: Leeds Utd - 149 arrests (avg 39,460)
:: Sunderland - 126 arrests (avg 40,011)
:: Newcastle Utd - 123 arrests (avg 47,717)
:: Manchester City - 108 arrests (avg 45,880)
The number of people given banning orders - which stop troublemakers going to matches - also dropped slightly, down to 3,173 from the previous total of 3,248.
Championship side Cardiff City topped the banning list with 143 orders.
Hooliganism was described as "the English disease" as violence in and around stadiums became increasingly prevalent in the 1980s.
England were threatened with expulsion from the Euro 2000 tournament in Belgium and the Netherlands after hundreds of fans were arrested before and after a game against Germany.
But last year there were no arrests at any of England or Wales' international games.
Of the 60,000 fans who travelled away for European club matches there were just 14 arrests.
Assistant Chief Constable Andy Holt, the Association of Chief Police Officers lead on football policing, hailed the turnaround.
This season's record low arrest figures follow on from last year's successful World Cup in South Africa, where nobody from this country was arrested.
Crime Prevention Minister Lord Henley
"Over the past two decades the UK has made steady progress in reducing football-related violence and disorder," he said.
"The service has worked hard with football clubs and football supporters' associations to ensure that genuine fans can attend games without incident and it's reassuring that the figures reflect that a very small minority of fans have come to police notice."
About 37 million people attended matches in England and Wales in 2010-11, meaning that the arrests represented less than 0.01% of all spectators.
The figures cover all arrests for football-specific offences, such as throwing missiles in a stadium and invading the pitch, as well as a wide range of general criminal offences, such as those involving violent disorder or alcohol, committed in connection with a football match.
Crime prevention minister Lord Henley said: "This season's record low arrest figures follow on from last year's successful World Cup in South Africa, where nobody from this country was arrested.
"But we are not complacent and we will expect to see England fans continue their good behaviour at next year's European Championships, where the eyes of the world will be on them once again."

How many of those United fans got arrested for resisting arrest? I mean, a quarter of them don't even understand English.

All the documents which contained the number of Liverpool fans arrested last season must've been stolen...by Liverpool fans.
