8 matches ban is a bit harsh on him in my opinion but I am happy because he will miss the Carling Cup semi final against us.
I think honestly a 4 match ban + fine is enough for him but if the FA has decided to give 8 then I guess 8 is okay.
It will really damage Liverpool's hope of advancing in the Carling Cup and picking up points in the EPL because he is their star player and most attacks they do in open play revolve around Suarez.

Why would they shorten the suspension?
If the appeal is successful he should miss no games, if it's not then it should stay at 8?
