Didn't see a thread. The CAN qualifiers are going on right now. The top three teams qualify...

    Group A
    Senegal
    Morocco
    Nigeria
    Algeria

    Group B
    Egypt
    Gabon
    Ivory Coast
    South Africa

    Senegal v Gabon
    Egypt v Morocco

It's funny how CAF has more spots than South America for the Olympics. Laughing

How many South American stars are under 23? I also think some South American teams are still playing their leagues at the same time as the Olympics? I could be wrong about that but that might be an issue. I am not sure how long the state tournaments in Brazil last.

Does anyone plan on watching Algeria matches? Our newest youngster Medhi Abeid is playing and want to know how he does.

They got last in Group A, so they are out.

Gabon grabbed a last-gasp 1-0 victory over Senegal in the CAF U-23 Championship semi-final to claim a shock berth to next year’s Olympic Games in London.

Substitute Andre Poko scored the priceless winner in the 120th minute to hand the African minnows their first-ever Olympics ticket.

Gabon made a superb comeback from their opening defeat to Egypt as they drew with South Africa before pegging back Ivory Coast to win 3-1 and reach the semis.

Senegal still have two chances to make the Olympics as they face the loser of the other semi-final clash between hosts Morocco and Egypt in the third-place playoff.

The fourth-placed team will then meet an Asian side in another playoff.

Gabon clap Someone on this forum was bitching about Gabon being ranked higher than New Zealand not long ago.

Morocco beat Egypt 3-2 in the semifinal. So Morocco and Gabon have secured their ticket to the Olympics. Egypt will play Senegal in the third place match and the winner will go to the Olympics. The loser will face the playoff team from Asia to secure a ticket.

Egypt qualify after beating Senegal 2-0 in the third place match. Senegal will face an Asian team in the playoffs for a chance to book a place in the Olympics along with Morocco, Gabon, and Egypt.
