As Ste said, no reason why both couldn't play together, depending on the player we buy. And if not, doesn't matter anyway, it's a squad game nowadays, Lucas would still get plenty of time on the pitch and vice versa. If we're gunna' be playing Champions League football next season, then another top player in Lucas' position will do us no harm at all.SpiritOfShankly wrote:Dean wrote:Kind if knew that was coming. I've no doubt we'll be buying a like for like replacement, according to
A few people, we were looking anyway, so I think the scouting will be stepping up a bit after this. A loan is fucking pointless so it's no even worth putting that into consideration. You're not gunna' get a good/very good player on loan are you? Fact is, we'll be paying top dollar if we do buy someone.
Lucas out for the season, Gerrard seemingly no closer to returning, I think we can safely assume we'll be active in January, to be honest, we've got no choice have we now. Feel for Lucas, but I think we can manage, providing we buy someone of a high quality. Anterior Cruciate Ligament is not good news at all. There's no guarantee Lucas will come back stronger and better (we all hope) so I think we need to get this buying a stop gap out of our head and then expecting Lucas just to walk in the side after an injury like that. We need to go out and buy a top quality player (if we can). Who that is, I haven't got a fucking clue.
I haven't really been following the foreign football apart from La Liga (only Barcalona and Real matches). I don't think there's anyone who we could buy, so I'm not sure.
I do find it funny though everyone mentioning players from Italy, France etc... like they watch the players/teams every week.
Anterior cruciate ligament injury is very common more so with athletes but still common amongst sportsmen/women. Yes it can be terrible but there's far more that come back from it fine. Say we buy a top player to play in Lucas's position, not going to be happy when Lucas comes back and he's on the bench or the other way around if he performs.

That's what I've been saying though, if you get someone who can both defend and start attacks then you have found a perfect partner for Lucas.Steadman wrote:
Why can't they play together?[/quote
Depends on this new player if it happens, we won't play with 2 defensive midfield players so needs to be as good further forward.

Scott wrote:Gutted at the news. It's going to feel very strange not seeing Lucas' name on the team sheet. The worst part of it all is, if we continue to do well, and a new central partnership blossoms, Lucas will almost become just a memory. He might have a hard time getting back into a successful, on-form team. (If we do go that direction)
Hope Gerrard comes back soon, then at least we'll have the options of Gerrard, Henderson, Adam, Spearing and Shelvey for the central midfield spots. None of them can really replicate what Lucas does for us though, so it's a bit tricky.
We could possibly try Aurelio, but I don't know how that would go. Maybe not. People on RAWK were suggesting Agger but I don't agree. We definitely need to buy someone who excels in that role, and I have no idea who it could be. Lucas is the best in the world at what he does. (cue RR's and Filippo's Liverpool thread alarms)
I would be happy with Tioté, he's been fantastic so far for Newcastle and is only 24. We can't keep taking their players though lol. They must hate us enough as it is.
Well.. he's good, but I wouldn't go that far.
I don't see why you would go for Tiote. He's talented, but he's not as "young" as people make him out to be. You've got a history that makes most clubs jealous, you have a manager who seems to get a lot of respect from his players, and you have owners who are willing to spend big as long as they see a return. You could easily go for higher quality players. You're in a realistic fight for fourth, so there's no reason why you couldn't manage to bring in some pretty good players.

Tiote is a very decent player. I would not be dissapointed with him, but in Lucas, we've not just lost a terrific holding midfielder, we've also lost one of the most influencial players in the team. We'll need a player who will make a huge impact and not just a passenger. Until January I'm very happy with Spearing.
Could even try Agger in that holding role.

Don't think Lucas will be diminished to a mere sub when he comes back, he's a hero.

Still a very strong side. With the likes of Gerrard, Downing, Kuyt, Carroll, Kelly and Carragher ready to step in.

One thing that's keeping me going after the Lucas news is the fact Henderson and Adam have been brilliant recently.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
Eriksen wouldn't go to Liverpool, pretty sure of that, he wants to play in Spain and already turned Man City down this summer. Probably going to Real next summer or something, not like if they need himCadbury wrote:On a related note I think we need a David Silva-esque player. We can't rely on Gerrard and he's not that great these days.
Any suggestions?
I hear Marvin Martin being mentioned, he wouldn't be a Silva type of player, still very good though. Could see him at Liverpool tbh.
The most realistic and probably the best solution for that would be Ryad Boudebouz, Martin's teammate at Sochaux. He's a left footed RW and likes to roam around, so pretty much what Silva does for City. Very good dribbler and passer, still young and not too expensive, would really fit to Liverpool but I'd love him at Arsenal
And yeah I have watched him play, mostly last season but watched several Sochaux games this season.

Who would you compare Martin to? Like Nasri? Never seen him play but heard some good things.
We were linked with Boudebouz in the summer. Never seen him play either. Sounds promising though.

A big shame for Liverpool......and arguably everyone else too. It's good to have the best possible competition in the league.

I'm just so devastated. I'm really worried too after seeing players like Michael Owen and Luis Garcia quickly diminish after a ACL injury.
I think it's pretty legendary that he played on for about thirty seconds before calling for a stretcher. Either heroic or could have made it worse.

Playing on with an ACL is not brave, it's idiotic. An extra minute with that and you could end your career for good.

Hes a regular in the France team I agree with you though aside from that example.Dean wrote:You know what I mean Enternal. When people start mentioning players... They mention them off hype and what other people have said, I find it quite amusing.
For example, I've heard M'Vila mentioned. Now he plays in the French League for Rennes, seriously, how people sit there and watch Rennes every weekend? Infact, no, not even every weekend, I bet not one single person on this forum has watched Rennes more than 3 times, even once if you like. People are mentioning him, because he's a highly rated young player and they've seen little snippets here and there. Maybe on youtube or a highlights show or something.

It's not uncommon for people who sustain ACL injuries to carry on for a small amount of time.

Hmm, difficult to compare actually, he isn't quite like Nasri in terms of dribbling ability/style even though he's a good dribbler too, very good short and long passer, great shot, good cross, good vision, anything you want from an attacking midfielderCadbury wrote:Who would you compare Martin to? Probably similar to Kaká even though he doesn't really attempt long passes.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
I think you guys are aiming to low with the like of M'Vila, de Rossi, Keita, Tiote and Diarra. Let's not forget, Lucas is the best defensive midfielder in world football according to Liverpool fans, you need to be going for someone better. I hear that Sergio Busquets is having arguments with Barcelona over his contract, maybe King Kenneth could convince him to move to Liverpool in January, Mascherano's always said that he loved the club, and he was the best defensive midfielder in world football according to most Liverpool fans from 2007-10. What about Xabier Alonso? He was the best deep lying playmaker in world football according to Liverpool fans, maybe he could do Lucas's job? What about Xavi or Iniesta? I'm sure they'd love to play under the great "King Kenny".
Then again, maybe you should look internally. Jordan Henderson is the best young midfielder in Europe, maybe you could give him a go, or maybe Jay Spearing, who is also one of the best prospects in world football. Steven Gerrard is the world's most complete midfielder, he'll be a fine replacement for Lucas when he returns. You guys don't need to worry, half of Europe is desperate to play for you, and you have absolutely amazing young players to step into the void.
