Dirk Kuyt is on the verge of a unique place in modern Liverpool history - but is desperate not to be.
The Dutch striker has yet to win a trophy in five seasons since a big-money move to England from Feyenoord.
The Reds cult-hero has played 250 games for Liverpool without winning a single pot - and you have to go way back to the 1960s to find a senior signing who has played so many games without getting his hands on silverware.
Kuyt has just six months to avoid the unenviable achievement of 'beating' Emlyn Hughes' landmark of 6 years before his winning first trophy for Liverpool - and that is why he admits he's taking a deadly serious approach to the Carling Cup tie at Stoke on Wednesday evening.
"Not being involved in Europeis a major blow to the club so the Carling Cup is a great trophy to win because we're all desperate to win some silverware."
Dalglish will play a near-first choice side in the competition that offers him his best chance to lift a trophy in his first full season back in charge.
England striker Andy Carroll is set to get a rare start up front.
