With the likes of Bent, Defoe, Welback, Sturridge, Carroll etc, we have plenty of players who can score, not only that, but we'll have attacking midfielders such as Young, Johnson, Downing, Gerrard, Milner, Walcott etc.

We don't need Rooney to win the group. There is no I in team.

Sure there are players who can score goals and do "a job". But Wayne Rooney scores goals, sets up goals, and helps out in midfield and sometimes even in defence. Easily England's most important player at the moment. Rooney's goals may be replaced fairly easily, but his tenacity and his ability to chip in on more or less the entire pitch is not easily replaced. None of the players you mention are remotely capeable of making up for the loss of an in form Rooney.

However if he starts playing like he did in the WC, then it's not much of a loss...
