Yes Keegan left for a higher standard of football, and his Hamburg side lost 6 nil at Anfield in the European super cup and 7 one on aggregate. And well English sides did win all those European cups and that says to me it was one of the best league's in Europe at that time.

this supercup example is bad, hsv were midtable team when keegan join them and did major offsell on their previous best players to aquire keegan.

they even finish closer to relegation zone that season. quality of league speak volumes when best british player joined a midtable (ambitious, but midtable) german team in a stronger league. as consequence, keegan led hsv to their first BL title for decades and inspired many young prospect in that team. a couple year later after they leave those core players that study under keegan won european cup
