Vincent Cooke has been cleared of charges for Murder after he stabbed Burglar Raymond Jacob defending his home.

he isnt the only Burglar to be killed this year from people defending their homes armed robber Gary Mullings, 30, suffered fatal wounds when Mr Coley picked up a knife used for cutting flowers and stabbed him during a frantic struggle at the shop.

good they have finally sorted this law out so defend your homes without being arrested for murder.

Doesn't make it right, can't kill someone just because they are trying to steal from you.

Yeah but you have a right to defend your home and your family. You rarely see a robber break in houses nowadays without a weapon of some sort.

the rule is reasonable force so if he had a gun you can shoot him if he has a knife your aloud to defend yourself you cant stab a man he breaks into your house unarmed he did have a knife on him

Your allowed to intimidate with a weapon (unless its an illegal weapon). If they refuse to leave and pose a threat to you or anyone in your house you can then use 'reasonable force' to get rid of the threat.

Personally I like the fact that their putting this in the papers etc. It will deter criminals from burglary. Before a burglar could sue you, YES YOU if they got hurt in your house despite invading private property with the wrong intentions.

A person should be able to defend themselves. However, they should clearly warn the attacker that they have a weapon and will use it. If the robber or whoever doesn't leave, then the person has every right to force him out of the house.

I think the judicial system is a bit stupid when it comes to suing someone in these instances (at least in the USA). I heard once that a robber broke into a home and accidentally locked himself in a garage for about a week while the homeowner was on vacation. He successfully sued the homeowner.
