Nothing bad about Dalglish, but he more or less held the club hostage tbh. If anyone else had been appointed the whole "Dalglish could have taken over" mentality would still have been hanging over the club and in the back of the minds of the supporters. The new manager would be under intense pressure from the fans from the get go, a row of bad results and BAM "Give us Dalglish, incompetent board should have appointed King Kenny and not this joker!" Considering the quality of that Liverpool side it's highly doubtful any new manager would have hit the ground running, even Dalglish struggled a little to begin with and had that been anyone else the fans would have turned on them, causing a negative mentality to surround the club.
He might not have been the "right" person for the long term success of the club, but he was the only viable option at the time. I can only really think of one manager Liverpool fans would have given the same leway and that's the highly unrealistic option of José Mourinho.
After Liverpool's "transformation" and improved form in the latter half the fans would have been outraged if the board had swapped out Dalglish with a younger manager with new ideas. He was the safe choice, and again, probably the only one the fans would accept aside from Mourinho.
