Yes, but I am confident that our society as a whole will one day shift and become sustainable or atleast some form of it. Any British/North American children may be the scientist or engineer or inventor or investor that one day helps get us there. And even if he or she does not, he or she can still live a hopefully good live and benefit society some other way.mac wrote:polska. wrote:If those children were British children, then there point of existence would not be only to consume resources and procreate as many children as possible.
It's hypothetical polska. I was asking him to imagine young British children in the place of the African children. Also, the western world consumes far more resources than the rest of the world. It may not procreate as many children but these children will likely not even live long enough to procreate any children.
The African child however has no real point in existence. They are going to be born, live, consume resources, procreate then die a miserable life. (and no, the chance an African child becomes a scientist/inventor/engineer/investor that oneday helps us is astronomically low to even be considered a factor)

If they were white south africans (I've seen the BBC doc, there is quite a large population of them living in poverty!) then my feelings would be the same.mac wrote:Jord wrote:This pretty much. But I don't go around shouting the word Pakí to every Asian I see walking across the street. Fair enough but could you answer me this? Would you find the picture of the children more disturbing than that of the cooked dogs if they were white South Africans? Quite a bit of them live in poverty as well.
I'm just curious. Polska clearly stated he wouldn't give a damn. I would think you feel the same.
However, it would be much more shocking to me as it is not something you see everyday for sure.

Wut?
Either you quoted me badly or I seriously effed up a post.
edit: I reread, nothing is wrong there, I don't think you caught my point.
If they were starving british children, then they can be helped locally and still live normal British lives.

Polska, you should be banned for your clear and utter racism. Twice now, you have made very racist posts.
Africans are not second class people. Their sole existence is not to just eat, sleep, and drink. I was even more shocked when you said that an African will never become a scientist/engineer/etc. and will provide no benefit to society.

i doubt it. Besides, poverty is irrelevant to the discussion. We are assuming that we can help the African child eat and survive.

Referring to the ones that struggle to live to 5 years old, its going to be a struggle to keep them alive let alone get them a good education and onto building a good career.ahlycotc wrote:Filippo Inzaghi wrote:I'm sure he was referring to the ones in poverty.

Fuck off cunt. There is no racism. I am THE last person to be racist here. I always look for an explanation for things that involve the environment, not the people. I do not think any African is inferior. I highly believe any African child raised in a Western country can be as successful as anyone else. Our own member on here Gegil is an example of that. (Sorry for using you my Swiss friend )
No, NO scientist/engineer/etc. would ever become their potential in their environment, which is an overpopulated poor uneducated hellhole heading to disaster and ecological and societal collapse. If they manage to escape the hellhole that is another thing entirely.
I always try to make this clear in my thoughts, it is the environment at question, not the people. I am disgusted and dishonored with even the thought of any race being second class.

Watch this. In the right environment, any child that didn't have a learning disorder could learn a profession.

But however it is still only cute.
I think the theories going behind this is actually very interesting research but in practicality, it would be much more difficult.
He raised a very important point at the beginning of the video though. GOOD TEACHERS DO NOT WANT TO GO TO THESE COUNTRIES!!! That is a major issue! And an issue I think will be solved in the future with technology.
Still though, I think this proves my point. There is nothing wrong with the people (or in this case, kids) from these countries. It is the simple factor that these kids are not given a chance and many live in societies that make it even harder for them to succeed (and for us in the West to even invest in education in the 3rd world)

Really? I can assure you that some white South Africans do live below the poverty level and in conditions almost similar to those Africa/Ethiopian children. The majority of white South Africans are quite wealthy but some live very poor lives. From what you say, it seems almost as if you would feel less sympathy for the children if they were white. Interesting view point.

Well I wouldn't go that far, but yah, poor for South African standards.mac wrote:Jord wrote:

It seems as though your quite an optimist when it comes to the environment and sustainability.
Quite the opposite though when it comes to children living in poverty. It seems as though you have no sympathy for children or families living in utter poverty. At least you don't give a damn equally whether they are white, black, asian, pink, green, orange etc.

I should of stressed the "almost similar" part. They both live quite below the poverty line but I suppose the white South Africans have somewhat better living conditions due to South Africa being much more developed than the rest of Africa and other various factors.

I don't give much sympathy because they are the result of what non-sustainability delivers. The quicker the current generation (or given how quickly they reproduce.. 3-4 generations ) overpopulate, destroy the remaining resources, and go Rwanda on each other, the quicker and with less lives affected can we start rebuilding the continent.
I suggest you guys read up on what happened in Rwanda. It wasn't two ethnicities at war as history lessons would have you think, it was the people of the same ethnicity killing each other just out of pure survival. There were no resources or farmland for families (the average Rwandan farm/per family prior to the war was less than an acre (if even), and this is subsistence farming!!) obviously this created such large societal pressure, add in the tensions between the two ethnicities eventually erupting which resulted in during the chaos, pure genocide, towards their own people no less! That is Rwanda in one paragraph for you!
Rwanda will happen again and again all over Africa. Ethiopia will likely erupt in a Rwandan like event the way they are reproducing sometime in our lives, and the majority Ethiopians (who themselves are very divided) will probably blame the large Somali populations inside the country etc.
I know my views are very harsh and negative, but I try to look at things realistically, and this is what I see happening. Population pressures resulting in disaster has happened many times before in history, probably never to the extent that is Rwanda, but we do in our modern age make it much harder for mother nature to 'hit the reset button' and restore things to normal sustainable levels.
