Is Xavi a top 10 CM all time?
Haven't been around that long, but in my life time(which to some of you isn't saying much) he's probably the best one. I honestly can't think of many better but I know some of you will bring up the likes of Matthaus and whatnot. Anyway thought it would be an interesting topic.

Ehh, neither here nor there. They're both fantastic but I was talking about Xavi's influence and his accolades over his career.

Hard question. Probably it would be good to assume Xavi is one of the top 10 and then keep adding people to see if you contradict yourself.

He would definitley be in the top 10 of my lifetime.
If i had to pick one player for a CM position in their prime that i have seen though.. Steven Gerrard.

Thats a joke Jamie.Jamie wrote:Yes, easily.
Because you've only been alive 21 years, there could have been 40 players just like Xavi playing that you never seen. In your lifetime fair enough but not "easily" of all time. You just have not seen enough players to say "easily" and thats a very small and narrow minded statement.

I somehow doubt there's 10 midfields who have put in as important game performances nevermind season long consistent performances as Xavi.
You're being pedantic really, if someone said Ronaldo is in the top 10 strikers easily would there be a problem?

You are doubting something you don't actually know though. We all know who the great strikers were over the years because their goals are talked about, especially the ones in the big games and this is what they get the glory for. Central midfielders are not so talked about especially ones from the past. Of course there are a select few like Charlton and Beckenbauer but I could not tell you who Arsenal's best midfielder was through the 1950's or 60's without having to look it up and i obviously never saw him play but for that decade he may have been absolutely amazing. As for strikers i could name them through the ages until the sun goes down because i've been told all about them.. and very few of them have a record like Luiz Ronaldo. What record do CM's have that we can go by? None from the past its quite sad really but football has became a much more technical sport these days but back in those days players could have had just as much impact then as Xavi does now on a game.Jamie wrote:I somehow doubt there's 10 midfields who have put in as important game performances nevermind season long consistent performances as Xavi.

Can't say for sure especially as the term "Central Midfielder" covers numerous positions. I would hesitate to place him there especially if this is intended to include defensive and attacking central midfielders. And I obviously can't know for sure on a large part of it as I have witnessed less than two decades of football in my lifetime and that is frankly not enough to make an adequate judgement.

Revised statement for pedantic twats: He's easily the best of my lifetime but I'm open to be the possibility that 10 more from earlier eras are superior to a World cup winning, Euro winning, 3 times Champions League winning and 6 times league winning midfielder, 1 who is key to arguably the best club team of all time.

We're aware what he's won but a whole team won every one of those medals with him.Jamie wrote:Revised statement for pedantic twats: He's easily the best of my lifetime but I'm open to be the possibility that 10 more from earlier eras are superior to a World cup winning, Euro winning, 3 times Champions League winning and 6 times league winning midfielder, 1 who is key to arguably the best club team of all time.
Gary Neville > Dennis Bergkamp because he won more. great logic there phaggot.

The best of your lifetime? I'm assuming you never got the opportunity to watch Zinedine Zidane in his prime.

You assume wrong. I don't consider Zidane a centre midfielder anyway.

i donT think zidane is any better or any worse then xavi they are the same tier of player u can only seperate them by going into essay in depth discussion
to many people assume u cannot compare anyone to zidane and that he is untouchable especially on this forum which is filled with epl fan boys who never even saw zidane play reguarly in serie a and la liga

As I stated, the term "central midfielder" covers a wide range of positions. Zidane was definitely very offensive minded but he was still primarily a midfielder who played centrally...

Disagree about Eto'o but I wouldn't argue too hardly about the other 2.
I never said he was the most important, I said he was pivotal. He is a machine - bosses every game no matter what importance. Gary fucking Neville?

I brung out Gary Neville because you played the blind idiot card.. the trophy card. The one that says a player like Ryan Giggs is better than Marc Overmars because he won more and was "pivotal" yet in my eyes Overmars shits all over him prime v prime.Jamie wrote:Chris wrote:
