Btw, for the time being, I don't believe him. I can understand why the source in question fabricated the Ronaldo quotes that I wound up with egg on my face for. But this quote? What's the end? And it's so random. How do you come up with something like that?

An English newspaper fabricating quotes from a (former) Spain based player.

    Surely not. eek

Seriously though they need to be hit hard for this if they did indeed fabricate it, ridiculous how easy it is to lie and face no punishment when caught.

I'm not well read on the issue but I assume there is some sort of committee that would monitor newspaper actions.

No, but it would be pretty hard to do.

Plus I think action can be only took against them if they make quotes up saying something derogatory or something shifty

Unless Aguero wants to sue them, but I very highly doubt he would want to do that. Not worth it.

The justice system. It's libel and slander when you publish something fabricated like that. City have taken legal action against the sun twice and got two public apologies.

It's not libellous or slanderous unless it's deragatory and made in reckless disregard for the truth. And even if it is libel or slander, the victim himself would have to file the lawsuit. Governments don't file defamation suits on private people's behalf. There's no criminal cause of action for defamation. Also, you have to prove damages. What damage has been done to Aguero with this?

Wasn't suggesting the government would do it, was just saying that the justice system would be the thing which would punish them. Even if it doesn't go through the court system you can still get results. I imagine papers would much rather publish a quick apology rather than have to fork our legal bills to fight their corner.
