Anyhow I'd sat Federico Vilar was pretty unknown before Atlante. Played in some small second division Argentinian leauge that now plays in some regional leauge, then went on to some second division Mexican teams and on to Atlante. His great form even earned him a call up to Argentina. In my opinion still one of the best keeper Argentina has, unfortunately not playing in Europe or Argentina makes him a long shot of actually playing for his country. In my opinion this even made him seek a move to Boca Jrs that didn't materialize.

Years ago i remember Liverpool signing lots of players, that were unknown and ended up being succesful.

Ian Rush has to be up the top of them, as he became Liverpool's all time leading Goalscorer and still is to this day.

He was unknown at club level by the majority of people and no one batted an eyelid when Cahill left, wasn't exactly popular.

But PSG paid like £20 Million for him before he joined Bolton, he was hardly unknown

Yeah he was one of the star players even though Nigeria didn't really do well. He played in lesser leagues but I'd still say he was well known.
