Little do you know it has nothing to do with Islam, when the Ottoman's came and ruled over Arabia they brought their building design habits and that just happened to be one of them, it was the Ottoman's who started to use the crescent with the star on top of all the building and in the modern era, any buildings that are designed to have a traditional and old feel, mosques mainly, still use that Ottoman design, the crescent with the star.
