Messi often plays as a false nine for Barcelona, he's still not what I would call a striker though, he's just very adaptable across the forward line.

Difference is bendtner plays out wide because hes not good enough to displace van persie in the middle, on the other hand messi plays in the centre and pushed villa, one of the all time best la loga strikers to play out wide.
