Hunterlaar adding to his tally again, he has been incredible this season. That's 31 goals and 6 assists in 33 appearances for Schalke this season.

Good first half performance, bad second half performance, but we had ROY CARROLL.
What a guy, saved us multiple times and kept on playing even with his hamstring problem. What a player.

The goalkeeper for Viktoria Plzeň is actually Petr Čech's brother. I think he has done well to get his team all the way to this stage of the tournament. Too bad he never got any higher than the 3rd choice keeper for the Czech Republic because he seems quite decent to get this far.

Re: 2011/12 Europa League thread
For the first time in a long time we had two Polish teams in the knockout round. Both teams put up very good fights against their opponents who had bigger budgets and better squads. On top of it all, one team we faced was a shitcuntish team who parked the bus for 90 minutes.
May next year bring even more success.

Re: 2011/12 Europa League thread
Some good matchups for the next round.
couple of thoughts on it... what the hell happend to Redbull Salzburg, last year they took 2 points the group stage, while the year before they took 18 in a group with Lazio and Villareal, this year they edge out PSG and then get absolutely destroyed against Metalist
Tough matches for all the dutch teams but we knew that already, i think PSV have a good chance but it looks much tougher on AZ and Twente. Although in my opinionValencia is the stronger team than Schalke and Udinese are PSV have been doing very well in Europe, while Twente and AZ really haven't been that good, AZ managed to draw 5 times in their group and once, to go through, while Twente managed in a group where the other teams played weaker than expected.
City will be able to knock out 2 Portuguese teams in a row and also the last one, compared to last year when 3 of the 4 Portuguese teams in the tournament made it to the semi finals.
Reminds me of a couple of years ago where City knocked out but danish clubs in the round of 16 and quarters respectively

They were too worried about their upcoming Austrian Cup match against Red Bull Salzburg B.

In the 2001/02 Estonian Cup Final Levadia II beat Levadia 2-0. Crazy stuff still can happen.

Odd that the B squads are in the same comp, still. Redbull doesn't seem to be doing as well, first time i heard about the project they wanted the europe franchise to be the better team, but id say seeing them both play the NY Redbulls are better

Metalist 0-1 Olympiakos FT
A solid performance from my team, proud of them.
Metalist is a terrible team.Good attacking talent, but shit defensively.I think we will win comfortably in the second leg.

Re: 2011/12 Europa League thread
Huntelaar out for Schalke and they suddenly have nothing at all offensively against Twente.
Twente took it on a penalty by Luuk De Jong after Schalke was reduced to 10.
PSV getting hammered at the moment, they are not having a good month.

I am really enjoying ESPN's online coverage of the Europa League. For some unknown reason highlights that are labeled UK only actually play in the US.

Whats the point of the extra ref again? just like the penalty in overtime that should have been a freekick for Manchester United.

No, a lot of people still care about the Europa League. Depending on how the draw goes Spain could likely pass England for first place in the UEFA Coefficent.

Load of crap, 2 much better teams sent the city of Manchester where they apparently belong, NOT IN EUROPE. Sad that the teams adopted the attitude of the shit fans that were whining over Channel 5 and Europa League but they were sent out by teams that wanted to play football and wanted to win.
Bit surprised Metalist made it, more surprised that AZ did after going down to 10 after 2 minutes and then behind by 2. Good for Ajax that they stay in this competition for a little longer, drain them a bit hopefully .
Hope that Bilbao, Schalke Madrid and Alkmaar end up in the semis. So let the draws set that up tomorrow, something like. There is not much between the teams, obviously there are some big ones in there like Valencia, Madrid & Schalke
Metalist - Bilbao
Ath Madrid - Hannover
AZ - Sporting
Valencia - Schalke.

Re: 2011/12 Europa League thread
The Europa League is a quite lengthy competition and UEFA does not want to draw it out much more. Imagine if Fulham was still in this, they played their first game on June 30, 2011.Muhkoo wrote:I was a bit surprised to learn that they play all 4 games at the same time tonight, where is the sense in that :s

Was impressed with Bilbao against United, and i will watch this game. And hopefully they go on to win the thursday cup, and then some of their players can come and retain the thursday cup with Liverpool next season.Gegilworld93 wrote:Going to watch Schalke-Bilbao tonight, should be a good game.
