Big fishes in small ponds Empty Big fishes in small ponds

Post by Guest Sat May 28, 2011 7:53 pm

So we all know these types of players. The ones playing for a smaller club but stand out and seem to be too good for that team.

    Nzogbia
    Samba
    Adam
    Parker

    Feel free to add more.

The question is, would these actually make it at a bigger club and if so, at what level?

Yeah but this isn't a thread solely asking who these players are. It is asking if they can actually make it at a higher level or if they are just overrated...

I would say Bale and VDV at Tottenham but there no a small club really.

Probably Craig Bellamy at Cardiff, Grant Holt at Norwich, Jimmy Bullard at Ipswich and Adam Le Fondre at Rotherham.

Only two I can think of are Adel Taarabt, and yes he will be able to compete at a higher level, and Jordan Henderson, Sunderland aren't really small I know but I still reckon he could compete higher up in the league no doubt.

Fernando Llorente for Athletic Bilao, has proven himself for the Spanish National Team so I'm pretty sure he would be a top player for a top club.

Yeah but they aren't a top club at this time. I agree with Marty. Would easily start for all clubs in England, all except the Milan clubs in Italy. And probably start for all except Barca in La Liga.

Big fish in a small pond isn't just about a club side. Its more about the player. E.g. Messi at Liverpool would be a big fish in small pond.

Beckham + Donovan at LA Galaxy, let's face it, they could still perform in the PL and other top leagues.

I don't see why that makes it a stupid thread. Obviously we are talking about extreme cases. Players that are much much better than their teammates.
