Fair enough, it looks like he is leaving but this deal to United has been talked about for a long time, the Neuer peformances just took the spotlight off De Gea.

The Neuer deal was always a non starter, with the interest from Bayern he was always likely going to chose playing in his home country over playing abroad.

As for De Gea, it does look like he will leave. But no decision has yet been made and for now this is just media speculation. Until something comes out from either club, De Gea or his agent, De Gea is still an Atlético player.

Presumably Asenjo will be given Number 1 should De gea leave, never seen much of him what is he like?

When he was playing for Valladolid he was touted as the best young goalkeeper in the world, had a few good performances for us and then De Gea broke in to the first team and replaced him.

I'm not sure if he will be our number one, Joel Robles is another great young goalkeeper in our ranks. He's 20 years old and has played games for the Spain youth team at U16, U17 and U21 levels.

With politics, and the fact that Casillas is still one of the best keepers in the World, it could actually be a pretty long time before anyone becomes Spain #1. If he decides to just keep playing and stays a top 10 keeper there's no reason to believe that he can't keep playing for Spain through Brazil 2014 and Euro 2016. Just my opinion.

Anyway, de Gea is a great young keeper, has all the tools to become World Class, it'll be interesting to see if the nerves + move to a new league get to him if he does move. In Atletico's case this is interesting, two years ago Sergio Asenjo was seen as the shit, then de Gea came in and he was treated like the red headed step child (or, a luke for better reference) can he step up and show that potential once again?

I find the "Neuer to Bayern is pretty much a done deal" part interesting here. If it was such a done deal, why hasn't he signed for them yet?
I still believe that de Gea will be the one going to United.

But about Neuer, I don't think he's going to Bayern. I read about he had been talking about how he feels about his childhood club. I believe that loyalty to your childhood club would be not transferring to the rivals (Schalke wants to be a top club, they can't just let their best go to Bayern), but rather to a big foreign club.

Or is it just me who - really - dislikes Bayern, and doesn't want a great keeper like Neuer to go there.

Doubt it. It was De Gea who took Asenjo's number one spot in the team 2 or 3 seasons ago.

Just on loan. I'd expect Atlético to get a replacement in anyway seeing as how Asenjo is injury prone.
