Stronger now, as a team its better as a whole than 5 years ago, even if that team had players like Vermalen, Sneijder and Nigel De Jong. To not say that the team is stronger a season with a Championship is nuts. However i think the team just a year ago was stronger than this years champions

You got a Chelsea side who were in a horrible run of form earlier in the season, they still finished 2nd aye yes, but they were poor. Our draw could have been a lot tougher, for sure. Still, we beat the team ranked No. 3 in Europe and No. 2 in England on our way to the Final, our Last 16 draw was earned (as we won our group), and our Semi Finalist was very tough according to a lot of people on here, and it was very arrogant to say they were shit and we'd breeze past them.

Not purely on luck, of course, they still had to go out and beat those teams, but it could have been a hell of a lot tougher. I don't see reaching the final as being indicative of them being a great team in any way whatsoever.

Real Madrid and Juventus still had very talented squads back then, I don't care how you put it their teams were still among the best in the world. Villarreal knocked out Inter Milan that season and also drew with Man Utd, twice, while remaining unbeaten in the group stages. No semi final of the Champions League is easy so you can't deminish their team's performances that season considering they finished 3rd in La Liga the season before. Nah, Real Madrid weren't one of the best teams in the world, it was fucking years before they even qualified for a quarter final, and Juventus shouldn't have been allowed to even compete. Schalke knocked out Inter this season, but beating them hardly makes us a great side. Their League position in the season you beat them is much more relevant than their Final position in the previous season, eg. Schalke mid-table this season, Wolfsburg were mid-table when Fulham and United tanked them despite being Champions the season before. If a team goes to shit in the League in a particular season it's a much better indicator of their quality than their position the previous season.
If you'd played teams at that level this season you'd have reached the Final as well, and you did much better in the League this season, I'd say this current Arsenal side is better by a distance.

I'll pick up on your second point though. If our team this season came up against a Real Madrid team consisting of the likes of Beckham, Guti, Ramos, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo, Robinho, Zidane, Casillas etc. in the Champions League, there's no way in hell we would progress.
Our team this season may have more potential and youth about it than the 2006 squad, but our team back then had that winners mentality and had such a great balance within it.

hmm we finished 5th that year and 5th this year
but this year the other 4 teams were just better, that year we lost the 4th spot due to sickness haha. Hard to say, this year our midfield is awesome imo but our strikers and goalkeeper are poor.
I think I'll take this years side because we have quality players like Van Der Vaart and Bale and because we had some good champions league results and won our group.
